So I visited my doctor yesterday(post op 6 days) and he told me I could wear a compression tank top. Would that work the same as the vest? The tightness of both is the same.

Not sure of the exact brand you are referring to. If it applying firm compression it will probably work. My patients use a vest made by Design Veronique.

I use the standard garments for my patients in the early post-operative period (mostly Veronique), but after the first week, I allow them to switch to a garment that they can just pull on over their heads, and I recommend Spanx, as they are relatively less expensive than the "medical" garments, and they're very comfortable, as the material is cottony and not itchy as some of the nylon garments can be.
