Doctors Visit

I have had 3 primary physicians over the last 4 years.  Each one ordered a mammogram.  Each have shown more breast tissue.

I have lost 53lbs, 48lbs after the holidays.  They told me that fat stores estrogen, so that may be why breasts are growing.  With a 34" waist, I'm going wear compression bras in the summer.  I think that going bra less in the summer is done.  At 74, that is OK.  I have been married for 53 years.  We dated for 3 years before.  Life is good.

Not a doctors appointment, but the CNA helped transfer me into the shower from my wheelchair. I almost lost my balance and she quickly grabbed for me hesitating only for a moment. She then exclaimed, "OMG, I almost grabbed your boob to keep you from falling!"

I told her to grab whatever is necessary if it means I don't fall.

I have been having issues with dizziness and spikes in my heart pulse rate, so I finally got to see my doctor yesterday.

The medical day centre I attend addresses me as male basically because I was presenting as male when I first started in the program. They obviously know I'm intersex.
Their religious observances don't allow them to accept gender fluidity.

Yesterday's appointment was quite awkward as the male nurse needed to perform an EKG. He asked me to remove my shirts so he could attach the leads. He immediately commented, "oh wow, a pink bra!"
In an effort to smooth over things a bit I commented that I had purchased it on sale and that they're normally $50 and I got it for about $20.

His next comment was rather rude saying, "well, you are a big DUDE I can see why you need it, but I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a pink one."

Intersex individuals do not always identify with the gender assigned at birth. In fact, many intersex individuals experience gender dysphoria or discomfort with the gender assigned to them at birth.

The rest of the time with the nurse was uneventful.

The doctor finally arrived as I'm sitting there in the chair with just a pink bra on my upper torso and said nothing, he was actually very professional and stuck only to Medical conversation and procedures.

I commented to one of the other nurses that my nurse could be quite rude and she informed me that he had previously worked at a Men's prison and was a bit rough around the edges.

Prison hardens the attitudes of both prisoners and staff.

Not to resurrect a dead thread just don’t see a need to update a topic on a new one for what it may be worth. 

Yesterday had an appointment with my NP to go over lab work and ultrasounds of my chest. A comparison from 3 months ago to last week showed moderate continued growth. And my bloodwork shows primary hypogonadism with results from my urologist pointing to testicular atrophy of both testes likely due to prolonged hormonal imbalance. 

I’ve tried t gel, inhibitors and holistic approaches over the duration of about 2 years since being informed I had hypogonadism and is usually pretty easily treated. Treatments didn’t work and those that did didn’t work long term. 

About a year ago I just quit caring and opted to just let it be what it would be. Medications made me feel weird and figured my body would just stall out. Apparently not. 

My NP believes I have some kind of permanent aromatazation (sp) and while not permanent in the definition is likely creating a new baseline for hormonal balance. Apparently that means that my body is in belief that this hormonal imbalance is indeed its true balance. 

Made me think of those here who may not have answers as to the why and wonder if anyone else has been told unfortunately estrogen dominance is your new normal now

Yep. Aromatization was a problem for me for a long year & 1/2. The HPAG Axis involvement of this Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia eventually led to a bilateral orchiectomy… no more conversion. Then a Prolactinoma filled out the breasts more. 8 months before the meds got that under control. 44D now.

There are many reasons for estrogen dominance. Good luck.

I did testosterone from 17-19 years old as the doctor was trying to stop breast tissue growth. I abandoned it when I left home as I didn't feel right under T. 

19-55 years old I just let nature take its course. 

55-59 years old I went into menopausal like symptoms ranging from hot flushes to night sweats, the doctor said estrogen might take the edge off of it but decided against it. Again, nature took its course.   

 59-61 years old, and hot flushes are only a monthly reminder that they can still happen. Lack of hormone treatments have decimated my bones with osteoporosis. Oh well.

Mammogram this afternoon.  Receptionist was quite confused. 
She asked when my last period was to which I replied "None!"

She asked again  and I replied "I'm intersex,  I don't have discharges. 

She apologized promptly,  and I informed her I have had breasts since my early teens so people do get confused.  

Technician called me back and noted a discrepancy between my listed name and the one on my last scan. She asked for my ID to update the files. 

The scans went well.

Upon finishing things up the Technician told me, "If there is ever more reason for sterilization,  it's your case" insinuating that someone with my conditions shouldn't reproduce.  

Rather rude! But duly noted.
