bro, i am in the same boat as you. i was 330lbs, now down to 230lbs. once i get to about 10-15% body fat i will be looking into the surgery. my moobs look like yours, maybe a little worse. ive noticed since i lost all the weight that they have gotten smaller, but they still hang/droop down as far as they did when i was humongous. i am looking in possibly having doctor Bermant do my surger in the next 6mos. to year, but i dont think hes done anything quite as severe as mine. i dont care about scars either, cause i love tats, and plan on getting the scars covered up anyways. i also plan on getting massive (swole) once i get rid of my breasts. it sucks cause i cant really do any running or hardcore cardio do to my flopping moobs... lol.... i will be in this thread alot, seeing as you and me are very alike brother.

Just thought I would drop by and give an update to what's happening with me lately. I was declined to have the surgery covered by MSI (medical insurance I guess, I don't know what it stands for). I talked to the surgeon about it, and he says that I have to get my BMI (which is crap) to about 27, and then apply again, if I want to stand a better chance of being approved. To get to that, I need to be within 150-170lbs or so, says my family doctor. I never really expected to ever go that low, and with lifting weights, I don't know if I will, since muscle actually weighs more than fat after all. I weigh around 195 or so right now, so I have a ways ahead of me, though..

One good thing is that my cousin's boyfriend who I am pretty good friends with now, is buying the gym I've been going to, so he says he'll give me a job there. If that happens, I'll be working there, and since I'll be there, after work I'll just work out for a while. This will increase the amount of exercise I do, and will help a lot more than what I have been doing. It's just more convenient this way, if everything works out.

Well, that's it for now. I'll be updating this thread now and then as new things come up.

Hey user name, don't know if you're still around, but I haven't been around for a while myself, so I am just now seeing your message. I am sorry to hear that you're having trouble like I am. You know what, though? Don't worry about doing 'hardcore' cardio. Go on a treadmill, walk at a good pace with a good incline and you'll lose weight fine and you wont have all that much flopping around since you're not running or anything.

Same with other things. There are other cardio machines that you put forth enough energy, but you're not flopping all over the place. It'll be fine. DOn't think running or anything is any better than walking to lose weight. Running will strengthen your lungs and everything, but it's good just to walk on an incline on the treadmill until you're fit enough to start running, really. There won't be as much of an impact on your shins either, so it's just better, in my opinion.

It's good that you don't care about scars either, and will cover them up with tattoos. I am not big into tattoos so I am not really wanting any major scars. But really, I'd rather have them over what I have now!

Thanks for the reply.

good to see you back.

on the bmi, tell him to recalculate it, this time subtracting about 15-20 pounds of gyne!  ;)
* a man is more than a body will ever tell
* if it screws up your life the same, is there really any such thing as "mild" gyne?

Haha, I suppose I could do that. ;)

Still, I don't think the doctor cares all that much about helping me out. I asked him for pictures of previous operations, and he said to email him and he would send me some. It's been well over a month and I still haven't -- and don't plan to anymore -- heard back from him. I am going with this guy because my family doctor suggested him and made the appointment, and I trust him, but I should probably check around to see what else is available, if anything.

If I don't get covered, it'll cost me $5200 or so.

that's the thing, good job for your own $ is better than crappy job for free if the guy doesn't know gyne and isn't going to take you seriously.

and it sounds like a joke, but you would think he'd have known enough to factor that extra mass in  :-\

Headheldhigh,

So you're actually supposed to factor in that extra stuff when doing BMI? Hmm... this is getting really annoying. I don't feel I can trust this guy, but i'd be surprised if I really trust anyone. Still, I have no idea where to start looking for alternative options.

GNX,

I don't really like tattoos all that much myself, but we'll see how it goes. It may be a useful way of covering up any problems that may arise. Yeah, i've heard the scars will go away, but I didn't know you had to apply anything to them for it to do so.

Thanks.

Hey Gavin, I've read this entire thread.  I was just going to make a suggestion that I noticed no one else here mentioned yet, and that is to buy either a compression t-shirt, or even a tight-fitting undershirt if you are concerned with bouncing while running.  It'll hold it all in and then you're free to run like the wind.  Hope this helps!

Hey, I just had that drastic surgery you were talking about done.  I didn't have a severe case of gyne.  It was more of a moderate case.  I do have some extra skin.  My plastic surgeon said that I was borderline... meaning lipo might work but it may require another operation to lose excess skin.  Well, I don't have money for another operation, and plus I wanted to get the flattest chest possible.  So what he did was take the breast tissue out of each side.  Took off the nipple and reattached it.  Plus, the nipple is suppose to be a little smaller, which is a good thing for me.  Yeah, there are suppose to be scars, but I really don't care.  The scars on me shouldn't be that big, but really, I'll be thrilled to just wear a t-shirt again.  And then who knows, I've always wanted a tatoo anyway.  I'm at the end of day 2 of recovery, so I don't have any pictures yet to show you, but when I do, I'll make sure to post them.  Any questions about the operation?

gratz to you on your weight loss.  I think you should go through surgery, like someone said, scars would be better.

My plastic surgeon was Dr. Andrew Baertsch.  I think he works at more than one surgery center because he is so busy.  I saw him at Lakewalk Surgery Center in Duluth, MN.  He is supposed to be very good and I've heard from many people that he does good work.  I found out about him through my father who is in the health care industry.  http://www.ncprs.com   That's the website you can contact him through.  I hope this helps.  I never saw the surgery I had done on the website.  He explained it to me in the office.  I'm not sure how often he does this or not, but it definitely seemed like a good idea for me.   If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

i doubt you can literally, since it's hard to be exact about the weight, but my point is given your weight, i think it's throwing you off and holding you to an unrealistic expectation.  once you're in a basic range and hormones are stable i don't see any reason he couldn't do it, and i was just surprised he didn't seem to factor the fact in.

I keep forgetting to check back to this site. Sorry it takes me nearly a week to respond. =p

Gabbyhey,

Cool. Hopefully everything will work out for you. I don't care quite as much about the possible scarring anymore, as it'll fade with time, and really, I'd rather just not have these things sticking out anymore and making me feel uncomfortable while wearing pretty much anything. Scars are really a better option now that I've had a long time to think it over. Unfortunately it's gonna take a while before I can even think of getting the surgery. Let me know how things go for you as time goes on, and maybe send a pic or two when everything heals a bit. Thanks. =)

Unknownrandom,

Thanks. Yeah, I would definitely get surgery now if it were a possibility. That's no longer an option at the moment, though. =\

Headheldhigh01,

Ah, thanks. Yeah, it's most likely better that I lose more weight and whatever before I get any surgery done. I don't really have any problem with waiting another year or so before trying again. I've been living with them for this long, so that's nothing, really. But if he was supposed to think about that, then maybe he's not as good as I was told. However, in all honesty, he seemed rushed and I got the feeling he really just wanted to hurry it up and get on to his next patient. Oh well.

You know whats interesting?  I had to wait a few months for my surgery, but once I knew I was getting it taken care of eventually, it didn't bother me so much.  There was a couple of times in that period where someone would crack a joke at my expense, but I just shrugged it off thinking, well soon I won't have to deal with that.  Before I had a surgery date, that would bother me for the next couple of days.  So good luck and I hope you get your surgery taken care when you feel the time is right.

Not me dude. Just a few days prior to my surgery, a coworker at a union meeting grabbed a m(o)(o)b and said "Look at the breasts on this guy..." in front of about 30 other work buddies. That comment made me feel so bad. I felt like smashing the guy in the face but he was drunk so I didn't bother.
