Title: The vest required post-op

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting the op done this autumn, but I just wanted to know from anyone else who has done it - what is the vest like?

I've heard it said that it's not visible under clothing, but to what degree? Could it be seen under a t-shirt, for example? I ask because I don't think I can take two weeks off work just to lay around the house - I'll have to go back into work, and I don't want everyone asking why I'm wearing some kind of a harness!

Or is there any type of surgery which doesn't require a post op vest?

Not all after surgery vests are the same. Gynecomastia After Surgery Compression Garment (http://www.plasticsurgery4u.com/procedure_folder/male_breast/male_chest_garment.html) hides well under most reasonable clothing. It will show through something like fine French silk. My patients are often back to light duty the day after surgery. The vest actually makes such early recovery possible by increasing the Comfort After Gynecomastia Surgery (http://www.plasticsurgery4u.com/procedure_folder/male_breast/gynecomastia_pain_comfort.html). Pain and discomfort are much more revealing than a compression vest.

Virtually all gyne surgery requires some type of post op compression with a garment.  I usually recommend four weeks at a minimum but every surgeon has a different regimen.  You are usually able to resume non-strenuous activities the day after surgery and return to sedentary, office-type work within 2-3 days after surgery.

If you go to work in a regular shirt, then the garment should not be visible underneath.
