Title: Silverman (protein and aminos with soy)
Post by: jay adams on April 28, 2013, 04:54:44 PM
I have recently purchased "NOW" brand branched chain aminos. After receiving it in the mail I found out it has soy in the ingredients. Will these cause any problems if I take them?

Also, protein powder with soy. Should I steer clear? How much is too much?

There is a long-standing debate about soy protein and its possible estrogenic effects, a discussion of which is well beyond the scope of this forum.  Personally, I steer more toward whey protein sources, primarily because I've been led to believe that the bioavailability of the products I use is better, and they're whey based for the most part.  Similarly, some of my friends who are close to the supplement industry (both manufacturers as well as reviewers) favor non-soy sources.  Unless you're using soy because of lactose intolerance or dietary restrictions for other reasons, I'd limit soy protein, just to avoid clouding the picture.
