Puffy Nipples questions

I have had puffy nipples with a hard disc like surface underneath for about 2 years now, I am a national level gymnast as well which involves wearing leotards and is very embarrassing to do so. I don't tend to have a breasts as such just a very large, almost inflated nipple. I would like peoples opinions on whether surgery is a good option, I don't know how much longer I can 'keep waiting'

I would assume that as a competitive gymnast, that you are muscular and have low body fat.  Given the fact that you have had puffy nipples for over two years, it would be doubtful that they would spontaneously disappear.

Best to consult with your folks and visit a board certified plastic surgery who (preferably) has a demonstrated interested and expertise in gyne surgery.

Thanks for the quick reply doc, I weigh around 8.7 stone.
My mum doesn't feel comfortable with me having surgery as I'm 14 and I am yet to finish puberty and she thinks that it's dangerous to mess with gynecomastia while going though puberty
I am taking tumeric pills to try help with gyne

Your mom is wrong but I do understand her concern and reluctance.  I have operated on boys as young as 11 and 12 -- with no problems and no recurrence of their gyne -- but your mom will probably not accept that.

Taking tumeric is a waste of time.

Best is to keep up a running conversation with your folks and perhaps, in another year, when they see that nothing has changed and that you are very unhappy about the situation, they may change their minds.

Hi Doc I'd like to add some pics for your opinion on how bad my gyne is
I don't think it's bad but it's noticeable and embarrassing
 


My mum also thinks they would deny surgery as she thinks it isn't bad enough, as I live in the U.K she'd rather it was on the N.H.S instead of paying

Please feel free to post some photos -- and everyone will offer an opinion.

Obviously, if surgery is indicated, you would do best (financially) to have it done through the NHS.  However, just be careful about who will do your surgery.  There are some private specialists in the UK who do a lot of this surgery and get some excellent results.  Sometimes, it pays to pay for the best quality work.

If you had it for 2 years, it will most likely not go away by itself.
As recommended by Dr. Jacobs, if you decide to get surgery, make sure your surgeon is an experienced gyne surgeon.
