Surgery booked with Dr. Thomas Mustoe in Chicago

Hey all,
Wanted to let you all know (especially those in Midwest/Illinois area) that I just booked a surgery with Dr. Thomas Mustoe in Chicago for July 14. Saw one good recommendation for him on this forum in addition to some positive reviews on some bodybuilding forums as well. Took the chance to meet with him and feel positive that I made the right choice. Extremely (seriously!) fair price and there is no charge (outside of medical supplies) for a revision, if it is necessary.

After my initial consultation, Dr. Mustoe informed me that I would be able to have the surgery performed with local anesthesia paired with a sedative in his office. This was ideal for me since I mainly have a glandular issue; he did say that some slight contouring with liposuction will be performed as well. He has great bedside manner and is very thorough in describing the procedure and any potential complications. Excited and anxious to have the procedure done! It will be interesting to see if I will be able to bounce back from the surgery as quickly as Dr. Mustoe predicts…

For background on myself, the glands originated during puberty. They first started as hard lumps but changed into more soft tissue that puffed up my nipples. Even though I take care of my body by working out and eating carefully, the puffiness of my nipples have always been an issue. Tried tolerating them but I'm now 28 and enough is enough.

Will update as I go through the healing process after the surgery date. July 14 can't come quick enough! Ordered a bunch of henley t-shirts in anticipation haha… will be nice to finally be able to wear t-shirts by themselves!

Thanks Bob! I'm definitely going to take any chances. And as an aside, my experience after this consultation seems to confirm that it is in the best interests of potential patients for this operation to lose as much body fat as possible prior to pulling the trigger. It will have the effect of making the operation cheaper and logically seems to facilitate the healing process since there is less tissue that needs to be altered or excised.

im tryin to get as lean as posssible before getting it done, so its as easy as possible of a surgery. any1 get it down wit dr "removed doctor" in the past?? how did it goo???

If you're referring to Dr. Thomas Mustoe, he's had some good reviews on this forum. I've also found positive reviews on a few bodybuilding forums. With those reviews, I went in for a consultation and walked away feeling reassured enough to place a deposit on the surgery. I'm having my procedure on July 14, this Tuesday! I'll be updating everyone with my progress afterwards.

Just got back home after my operation! Very happy with everything from start to finish. Had it done under local anesthesia with sedation. Painless procedure aside from some minute discomfort from the liposuction probe. Was escorted to my hotel after it was done and promptly knocked out. Woke up around 11pm last night and took 2 tylenol; was prescribed Percocet but the pain was very slight and so never needed it. The tenderness feels like a really hardcore chest workout. Its now the following day and the pain is almost gone!
Got a chance to look at the evil little tissue growths and was surprised to see how small they were in comparison to others i've seen online. Suppose it makes sense since my gyno was centralized behind my nipples, giving them a puffy appearance. 

Have a follow up on August 21 but Dr. Mustoe told me to contact him if there are any questions or issues. Interestingly enough I only need to keep my Ace wrap on for one more day. He also told me I would be able to resume working out within 2 weeks, with the caveat to ease back into it.

Day 3 post-op. Swelling has gone down quite a bit... still there but it's reassuring that it is going down in a seemingly linear fashion. The left side is a little more swollen than the right but again, the swelling is going down. Will be able to remove the steristrips in four more days. Since the gyno was localized under the nipples, I noticed that I have almost complete mobility (i.e. I can raise my arms above my head without any pain/discomfort).

Almost a week post-op! Swelling is still localized behind the nipples, but it has subsided in a linear fashion. What had been a little disconcerting in the beginning was that behind each of my nipples, I felt a firm mass. I'm starting to realize that the firmness was due to swelling (at least at this stage) since the tissue behind my nipples has also loosened up while simultaneously shrinking in size. It's a not a drastic shrink in size but again, it seems to be going down in a linear fashion. What has been another promising sign is that the almost comically faint, yellow band of bruising across my chest has been fading in color. 


I will hold off on judgment until my 2 week follow-up with Dr. Mustoe to see if there is firmness left at that stage and if it is because too much of the gland was left inside. Nipples are slightly tender but I'm able to resume normal activities without any pain (i.e driving, moving furniture, dishes, cooking, etc.). 


Will continue to update in weekly increments to allow for more "dramatic" changes to report back to forum members. 


And as an aside, I highly, highly recommend that anyone who is on the fence on getting this surgery done,  DO IT! Don't wait. I am 28 and wish I had it gotten done when I was younger. While it was never very severe, it still bothered me tremendously being unable to wear T-shirts without feeling self-conscious of my puffy nipples. No matter how much working out and dieting I did, it didn't help. Just a week post-op I can finally wear henley T-shirts with confidence, even though my nipples are still swollen from the procedure!
