Cellar: you need to talk about your GP with this mate, dont think their going to laugh at you they are medical professionals! And to be honest if they deemed it bad enough they may reccomend you for treatment free on the NHS. For me the NHS was a waste of time and they wouldnt treat me but others on here have had great success with them

Dont know why my debit didnt work, im starting to think it could have been an error with my bank. I wouldnt worry about that though im sure im one in a million that its failed on

you pay for your consultation on the day!

Do I need to talk to my GP? Do they need to know the details?

I'm in Ireland, and the NHS only applies to the UK and Northern Ireland - I don't think I'll be getting help from the taxpayer on this one. Even if I did, it would probably be delayed for God knows how long - I've already decided I'm getting this shit sorted and I'm going to focus on getting it done.
Surgery completed. Mission accomplished!
2/6/09. Dr. Karidis, UK.

Just get the blood test done when you go to see him, takes 3 minutes.

I paid with Solo debit over the phone no problem.

Maybe you can write these questions down cellar door and get them answered all in one go by calling Dr. Karidis and speaking to his admin staff, questions about directions etc you can I'm sure figure out for yourself with the help of the internet.
Before you criticise a man walk a mile in his shoes, after that who cares? your a mile away and have his shoes.

I know I'm asking a lot of questions... I'm going to contact him soon. I just don't want to come across as a complete retard when I'm talking with him, i.e. I'd like to give some impression that I know what I'm at.

You wont speak to alex, youl speak to his team

Dont worry about looking competent, thats what hes there for to make you feel better and answer your questions. When you have your consult with alex im sure youl feel a whole lot better

I would reccomend having the blood test there if you got the cash, its a bloody rip off though. Maybe ask them if you could fax them your results from the gp so they cant blame the bloody post

8 days to go! 16/05/2009 Dr. Karidis = Cant wait!

I don't mind paying a few quid extra for the blood test. Living in Ireland makes it awkward - if he wants the blood test 14 days before the operation, I would either have to fly over to the UK to get it done, or get it done here in Ireland and post / fax him the results. I'll ask them if it has to be 14 days before the operation. Otherwise, maybe I could get it done on the day of the consultation?
If I have that right.

Yes you have it right, after your consulatation with him a nurse will take you to a small side room and take a small sample of your blood, takes 3 mins and quite painless.

OK so you do have to pay for this service £120 but thats it all done and out of the way then, no faffing around for you with Dr appointments, faxes and god knows what else.

If there is any problem with them accepting your laser card and there shouldnt be as it doubles up as a maestro card, then go to your bank or building society and get them to issue a counter cheque if you dont have a regular cheque book. then send this recorded delivery to the hospital. You need a deposit at the time of the consulatation to book the date they then need the remainder 2 weeks before the operation.

Thanks as400, that's pretty helpful.

What is "recorded delivery"?

(I assume you meant recorded, not recoded)

Also, I wonder are they willing to take all the money at once, rather than paying in dribs and drabs

Yeah my spelling sucks! recorded, and yeah I am sure they will accept all payment at once if its easier for you.

If in doubt give them a quick phone call or message them for free via their website.

Re: Does Dr. Karidis require you to come back in a few days for a checkup?
VERY IMPORTANT

They will require a blood test from you this will cost £130 from StJohns and you need to have it to them 14 days before the op

Presumably then if you went for consultation, had the blood test done and then didn't have the surgery for say 2 mths, would the blood test results then be invalid and need doing again ??

I'm sure you could. I don't see why not.

Actually, the only reason I didn't go to my GP was that I needed the results quickly (my surgery was happening soon, I got lucky as someone cancelled), so I had to go to a private clinic (and pay over 100 quid)
