I have gynecomastia and a few questions --2nd Update--

Hi am 22years old and suffer from what i now know is gynecomastia. Due to my own ignorance and fear i suppose ive always ignored it and it is does weigh down on me mentally. Ive had it since about 13years old but it was never really a problem for me until around 18 when it seemed to get bigger on both sides and sometimes they give an ache-ing pain. I have what feels like lumps behind both my nipples. Im done with having all the jokes about me so i decided to go to my local GP and they booked me for a blood test yesterday and found this great site last night. I have a few quetions if anyone can answer them it would be greatly appreciated

1. Is surgery the only option to get rid of them?
2. The NHS stays well away from giving operations?
3. Ive read majority of topics and people say they have had great success. How do i contact the surgeons?
4. Roughly how much does it cost? Does revision to surgery cost more?
5. The surgery with Dr Benito is in spain?
6. Can they grow back?


Very glad to see this website because i thought i was the only one who had it. Im glad to see there is success storys on these forums and it makes me happy to see people now without it. I do not have much money but i think i would save up for surgery just to get this load off my mind all the time.

hows agoin bud.. one of the best things that you could do was find this site!! you will get all the help you need.. il try my best to help you on your questions..

1. yes bud, belive me theirs a lot of gimmicks out their claming to get rid of gyne and all that but their all a bunch of con artists in my opinion..as i noticed going to the gym and starting weights made it worse for me as i got very toned but my chest although a lot of muscle but still the gyne was their..and im a fitness instructor and i had to et surgery to get rid of this problem..

2. no nhs does gyne operations.. a lot of people on this site have got it done with nhs..

3. ok il give you dr benito patient co ordinators number!! 0034606953331 her name is aida tell her you want to book consultation with benito for gynecomastia..benito comes to london once a month for his consultations next one is june the 27th.. you might have to wait til next month coz he might be booked up.. another surgeon is karidis in london ask blue about him he'l fill you in on that!! dr benitos website is cosmeticsurgeryabroad.com i think not sure..

4. around 2700 british pounds with benito and bit more expensive with karidis..not sure his price just read blue2's thread he has a good thread about his experience.. revsion will cost more with benito..

5. i think i answered that on question 3 lol ..just read my thread or mwalkers thread or lesley snipes we are the most recent to have it done by benito..

6. thats one i dont know cant give u a concrete answer.. i hope not infact i pray not.. im actually going to do  bit of research into that maybe post a thread on the main forum..

irish lad has answered your questions well enough. The only thing I would add is the price of Karidi's surgery is £4100 and so more expensive than Benito. I think they are much on a parr as far as the sugery goes, I just felt more comfortable staying in the UK for the surgery and luckily the price was not a problem for me. It's just a personal choice.

As for question 6, I believe that they can NOT grow back unless you have a serious hormonal problem which I doubt. You should be able to rule this out by getting a test done. Ask your GP about it.

You are correct. It can reoccur, however it is rare.

During surgery does a surgeon remove any muscle? I use to do some weight training and i think its just made it ten times worse. When i tense i can feel muscle in my peck tensing but then the this Gyne is there too. After an operation can you still build muscle in that area?

I am very pleased with the responses, i am very gratefuly for the information you are willing to share and it means a lot to me. I have my blood test monday and i am unsure what the next move is. The GP said nothing informative except i need a blood test. Hopefully i can get this operation done soon and i will post how it goes for me.

no muscle mate.. i had very same doubts as you when first found out about gyne..you should get a better result if you have muscle underneath..yes sure you can build muscle after op.. i had all these doubts too as i was big into weights all they remove is fat and gland no muscle!!!

id say if blood test goes ok..go get a consultation and choose a surgeon and move on with your life!

Ok been a while since i posted because i was putting off getting my blood test results. I managed to get past this and saw my GP last friday. The testerone and some other part i forget was fine. Sadly they messed up the testing part on the kidney and liver, so im going for another tommorrow. Apparently their machinery wasnt working at the time so i have to do another blood test. Which left me wondering why cant they use the blood they previously took...

Last friday i was told by a GP not to go further with an operation until the NHS specialst which hes booking an appointment with for me has seen me. I dont know what hes going to test and im quite taken back by the fact i have to see someone else and probably have more testing. This process is making miserable and the fact ive spoken to no one who knows anything is just making me feel worse. I seem to know more than the GP and all ive read is this message board.

Does anyone know what further testing will be done with the specialist ive been referred to on the NHS?
Is there any point in going to this NHS specialist?
Is the next best option to speak to a private specialist with the idea of an operation?

Any replies are grealy appreciated.

They cant check same blood because it gets clotted and so cant be used for testing.
NHS specialist everyone is different but depending on what your conditions is they might
do Mammogram,Some sophisticated testosterone tests e.g Testosterone binding globulins but
they are expensive so they might not.
NHS doctors will say only yes if ur gynaecomastia is very bad then they ll put you on list
long waiting time and depends who is doing it.If it is mild form of gynaecomastia probably
they ll tell u to lose weight and stay away from surgery.
If u go to private doesnt matter whether u have mild one or bad one they ll operate.
IN THIS MODERN PRACTICE ONE THING IS WHAT PATIENT WANTS.NHS IS FREE SO THEY DECIDE
ACCORDING TO CIRCUMSTANCES.

My second blood test was not normal. I was told my liver has / is causing it.

I was told normal levels of albumin protein in the blood is 48. Mine is "Slightly raised" at 52. To me that doesnt seem slight and is 4 points above what it should be. Seems like the GP had done his homework since i last saw him, he knew exactly what is was and said it was this albumin that has caused it.

I have been refered to a specialist in the local hospital and should receive a letter telling me im on a waiting list within a month. The GP said the specialist may want to do further testing on the blood and liver and probably do a scan of the liver to check for problems.

This totally puts me off surgery. If i have this albumin protien still higher than normal then cutting it out will not solve problems and surely it would grow back....
