Loosing weight will help to make the problem more obvious when you go to see your GP and may help him/her understand your problem better. Personally I found my GP to be reasoanbly helpful but even so, she still told me that she didn't think that I had much of an issue! She did recommend that I go and see a specialist to get a more professional opinion but to be honest, I think she just thought I was a bit overweight. I can't knock her too much though as she basically saved my wifes life when she suspected that she had cancer (which it turns out she did), but as far as gyne is concerned, I don't think GP's know enough about it. After all they are typically 'Jacks Of All Trades' and know a bit about most things, but in some cases not enough about specific problems and therefore, they are there purely to refer patients to specialists. I was glad I found this forum and consequently found Alex Karidis who did my surgery, as I am convinced that I would still be dreading yet another summer of moob hell and baggy T-shirts. Right now I am in full training at the gym, wear tight fitting clothes with confidence and feel great for once.
Fedupwithit - Without sounding rude, try and loose as much weight as you can as this will help you a lot when the time comes for your op (if you decide to go ahead, and I strongly recommend you do!). It seems that results are generally better with slimmer guys on here than the ones where lots of fat needs to be removed as well as the gland. I was somewhere in middle ground by the time I had my op although I had lost about a stone I think before I had the op, and I am sure this helped me in the long run. I am now 2 stone lighter than I was at the start of the year and have no moobs and to be honest I feel great! Plus I am drinking less and my confidence has soared. So onwards and upwards in my case.
Whether or not you go for NHS tretament is your decision, but perosnally I would recommend the top surgeons that are mentioned on here day in day out. Namely, Karidis and Benito. If you want a more local surgeon (UK based) Karidis is the right choice but it will cost you. My op set me back £4100, but you can get it done in Barcelona for about 40% less with Benito if you are happy to travel, but you will have air fare on top of this. The way I see it, what price on your happiness? For me it was the best £4100 I have ever spent and I have no regrets whatsoever.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
