Had to go to the dentist last week for a routine cleaning. All went well. However, I had a new experience. The cord for the buffer/drill kept flopping over by right breast nipple resulting in significant sensation. It took effort to keep from jerking / twitching each time it happened. I do not wear a bra as my wife would never approve.

Has any one else experienced this?

Yep. as they grow they can get sensitive. How large have you developed to? When I was a b/c I'd thought my wife would divorce me over the thought that I might wear a bra....as a old fart in the d+ range that changed, She understands that they can hurt from hanging around unsupported.... and that large hanging/bouncing ones are more noticeable than supported ones in a minimizer.

I only wear to dentist if I have a flannel shirt on.  If I go in a fishing shirt, where I always bra up, I don' to the dentist.  They are very conservative and I just don't want to even go there.  And it has been uncomfortable for me at times.  I have reached the point where I will just have to and let it be their problem.  Treat it like all my other outings I guess.

Regarding breast size, my band size is 40 inches and over the breast size is 48 inches. As you know bra size measurement for females does not correlate to the same breast size for males in most cases. My nipple and areola dimensions fit in the female size norms.

Agreed. Bra calculator is adamant I’m a DD but I fluctuate between a full b and mid c cup. It would be nice if calculators included a gender marker to accommodate for estimated body type rather than breast measurement itself.

Personally I think the bra industry could profit with a gender size calculator.

What I'm noticing personally from my own experience is. In male gender it averages two inches over the band size per single letter cup size. And just like with women. There can still be a variance by brand and maker.

It would be nice to see Colors that are more appealing and geared to the male gender. And of course. Styles that are already out there that men already enjoy. But without all the floral lace and butterflies and such. Lol.
Personally I prefer earth tone colors.

Just the other day my wife said to me. Since I have been dealing with Gyno she has taken more notice of other men's chest and said she has noticed so many other men with boobs. And staked a claim that if more men with boob issues would start to wear a bra it may become the norm and people may just look on.
Good luck with that in our judgemental society. Lol.

It would be nice, though I just don't see it happening. Still to this day, onset at 33, now 40, I've yet to see a man in a bra of any kind. I know there are bras that are "invisible" but I feel at this stage I could see it if it was there. Being so hyper aware of bra lines and such due to my own insecurities of being in one for awhile before getting ok with it. I feel it would have been just so nice to see a guy in a bra that would make it feel not so alone. I imagine most men who grapple with needing a bra find themselves in a similar issue. Being the only one they see in one. Online, sure. Community groups like this, of course. At your local home depot, grocery store, park, gym, etc....not so much. I feel until men regularly wear one or at least enough men do, it just isn't gonna happen. And given how fragile the male ego is, I feel the bra is just not gonna be something we see become normalized for masculine men who have breasts.

What? So they can loose money where women actually buy the right size?

Studying this from a diff. perspective, the bra industry in general really has no interest in "getting it right" because there is no "right" to get. Women's breast size and shape follow multiple different paths, each one with different characteristics.

So being the geeky nerd weirdo I am, I put this to Chat, and got this back:

  • I'll use US sizing and assume:
  • Band sizes: 28 through 56, in 2-inch increments
     → 28, 30, 32 ... 56 = 15 bands
  • Cup sizes: AA through O, treating each cup step as a distinct size
     → AA, A, B, C, D, DD, DDD, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O = roughly 16 cup levels
(manufacturers get delightfully inconsistent here, because apparently standardized sizing was considered too peaceful.)
So: 15 band sizes×16 cup sizes=240 possible bra sizes15\text{ band sizes} \times 16\text{ cup sizes} = \boxed{240\text{ possible bra sizes}}

But let's make the body range broader

If we allow an unusually broad but physically conceivable adult range:
Band: 24–60 in, every 2 inches:
60−242+1=19\frac{60-24}{2}+1=19

Cup: AA through O ≈ 16 levels:
19×16=30419\times16=\boxed{304}
So I'd give the answer as:

Quote
Approximately 250–300 distinct conventional bra-size combinations within a very broad human range.

And that's only the label space.

Now comes the sneaky part

A bra size doesn't actually describe breast size by itself.
A 32D and a 44D are different breast volumes because the cup is calculated relative to the band/rib-cage circumference.
Then add:
  • underbust circumference
  • bust circumference
  • breast volume
  • breast width
  • breast projection
  • breast height
  • breast shape
  • tissue distribution
  • left/right asymmetry
  • body-fat distribution
  • rib-cage shape
  • measurement error

If we treated those as continuous physical variables rather than rounding them into commercial bra labels, the number of distinct possible breast/body configurations is effectively enormous, potentially millions or more.

For example, suppose we discretized just four variables:
[th]Variable[/th]
[th]Reasonable increments[/th]
[th]Approx. possibilities[/th]
Underbust1 cm90
Bust circumference1 cm100
Breast width0.5 cm30
Projection0.5 cm30

Then:
90×100×30×30=8,100,00090\times100\times30\times30 =\boxed                8,100,000

And that's before accounting for shape, asymmetry, breast height, tissue density, etc.

So the fun answer is:

~300 commercial bra labels, but potentially millions of physically distinct breast/body configurations that could map onto those same labels.

The bra industry takes an extraordinarily complicated three-dimensional biological object and says, "34G. Close enough." 😏
