I am 12 days post-op, have almost zero swelling and almost all bruising has already faded away. However, today I removed the tapes that were used to cover the scar areas (had stitches removed yesterday) and there are noticeable red places on my nipples. It seems that this is only dried blood from the surgery and from yesterday when I had my stitches removed. Am I correct? I am enclosing pre-op and post-op pictures.

Add: I had almost zero excess fat (just puffy nipples). An incision was performed + little fat was taken out for contour purposes.

Nice job by your surgeon!

What you are seeing is not unusual -- and it will heal spontaneously within a few weeks.  Keep some antibiotic ointment on the area for the healing period -- and don't worry.

Thank you for your answer, Dr. Jacobs.

So is this condition a result of dried blood? Or some skin irritation?

First you are doing fine. Second there are multiple wound healing related issues that are going on the scope of which just isn't relevant for discussion here. As has been said a small amount of topical antibiotic ointment would help or alternatively just keep the area clean. The body is a remarkably complex organism that has evolved over a long period of time. Your body is presently healing itself and the most important component in the healing now is time.

Thank you for your answer, Dr. Pensler. However, in the EU you cannot get anything antibiotic without a prescription from your doctor.

A drug store should have this as an over the counter item.
