I am set to have my surgery Wed. The doc said for my operation he prefers a tight wrap over a compression vest. I am having excision and some lipo around the areola, as my gynecomastia is directly under the nipples and no where else, that I know of. Any Doc's out there recommend the same?

Without any photos or an examination its impossible to say with any high degree of certainty.Having said that it sounds pretty typical for what I would do.

Thanks for the response Doc, its not the surgery I'm wondering about, but more the application of a compression wrap vs. vest. What are your guys' experience with this?

I tend to favor a snug compression wrap rather than a vest.  The vest is admittedly more comfortable, but it just does not provide sufficient pressure on the operated area.  However, that is an individual decision by the surgeon involved.

Good luck on your surgery -- hope it goes well.

Thanks for the responses. It feels so good to pull the trigger on this after years of putting it off and weighing the options. Also dr. Jacobs I'm assuming you mis typed your answer. You Opt for the vest, correct?

No, my preference for most cases is NOT a vest but rather than a snug compression bandage, which we call a "binder."  It has velcro and is therefore infinitely adjustable to one's needs.

Compression is a critical component of this surgical procedure.  It is basically a subcutaneous mastectomy which creates a large dead space that wants to fill up with fluid.  Compression garment is critical but delicate with the tightness because it can cause tissue lose.  I even go further and place in drains in 95% of patrients.
