What type of pain can I expect from this surgery?  Will the pain medicine be sufficient to help eleviate it? Also have a 2-1/2 year old son. How long typically before I can pick him up again or play with him. I know I need to ask my surgeon these questions as well. Just wanted some insight. Thank you.

Pain is very subjective -- kind of like one man's hamburger is another man's heartburn.

Pain also determined by the extent of the operation and the experience of the surgeon.

Many of my patients experience soreness for the first day -- and although I provide pain medication, many guys  make due simply with extra strength Tylenol for the first day.

Be assured that pain will diminish significantly after the first day.

Look to the future as a changed guy -- it will all be worth it!

Best of luck.

Most of my patients have very little pain and take very little pain meds. I do recommend at least Ibuprofen regularly throughout the day for 1-2 weeks as I believe it helps with mild to moderate pain as well as swelling. Check with your own surgeon though for what exactly you should expect.
