Taking off the vest right at the 6 week mark?

In a few days I will hit my 6 week mark of my lipo+excision surgery. My surgeon prescribed 6-8 weeks of some type of compression. He said after a few weeks of the compression vest I could switch to an Under Armor type shirt that was a size or 2 too small to provide good compression for the full 6-8 weeks but I decided to save money and stay with the original vest this whole time.

I am anxious for the day I never have to wear this thing again. Would it be safer to wear it the full 8 weeks or is compression generally not needed/useful after 6 weeks? Would only wearing it at night after 6 weeks be an option?
