Driving after surgery

Hello. Several people have brought this up, but I'm wondering how long I need to wait after surgery to drive. I'll be getting general anesthesia. The nurse said a week, but then said 5 days should be all right.

Does driving depend on whether I am taking certain medications at that time? Or is there "carryover" effect from taking medications for a few days, such that I shouldn't drive after 3 or 4 days, even if I haven't taken a pain pill on the day I want to drive?

Or is it something physical, such as major soreness for 5-7 days, which makes driving bad?

Hey man,

This is what I experienced.  After one night of sleep which wore the anesthesia all the way off, I could drive the next day.  Mind you, you will still be sore, but you could do it.

I drived a week postop and felt minor pain.

That nurse must be on cheap crack. Dude.... you'll be okay to drive the next day. The anesthesia will have worn off by then. Don't take too many pain killers prior to driving and you'll be fine.
