drugs before surgery?

iam just being careful so i thought i would ask if it is alright to take a sedative like xanax the morning of surgery. iam not nervous at this point but i know i will be the morning of surgery. its a small dose but i just want to be sure it wont interact badly with anything they give me. thanks.
