I am going on my 19th day post op, and last time I trained was 21 days ago. I desperately want and feel the need to hit the gym again.

I've got a little bit of swelling but it's still pretty minimal, and I've developed some slight loose/wrinkled skin when I flex my chest muscle. If I don't flex and stand straight my chest looks perfectly flat. It's been like this for a couple of days and I haven't seem to gained any swelling in the last couple of days.

I don't feel any pain when I lift something, example grocery bags or a basket full of laundry...but I still haven't lifted anything real heavy since surgery.

I was thinking of getting back the gym tomorrow and start cardio and maybe some biceps, triceps and abs.

Is this too early ? What are the risks ?

You should be okay dude...  Just take it easy and listen to your body... If you feel any pain/discomfort what so ever, stop. Then give it another week or two...  ;)

Should be ok, just start out easy and I would avoid any chest exercises at this stage if I were you...e.g. bench presses & dips.

I would just leave the chest alone for a bit longer.  But at 3 weeks, you can probably exercise all the other areas of your body without discomfort.  Some shoulder exercises might cause some discomfort in your chest though depending on the exercise.  Good luck!

training is pretty much my life, and my Doc said after 3 weeks post I can start again....He said for the first week back just do mostly stretching and really light stuff...then get at full bore!  I am 12 days post at this point...getting antsy, but its worth the wait.

You should be good to go man.  I started back to the gym two weeks post-op.  Here's what i did:

Week One:  Took completely off from all physical activity
Week Two:  Did all light weights on a 4 day split
Week Three:  Resumed normal weights on a 4 day split
Week Four:  Normal weights on 5 day split (1 day light chest exercises)
Week Five (this week) Resumed ALL normal weights and 5 day split

I feel great, besides a little bit of weakness in my chest.  But that should be expected after nearly four weeks off.

Hey guys, thanks for all the response.

So I went today, did some cardio. Did my biceps, triceps and abs. I lifted about 10lbs-20lbs less than I usually do on all excersises , but not having worked out in 3 weeks made my muscles still force hard.

No chest pain at all. No extra swelling yet, I'll see tomorrow morning. I feel great and so glad I'm back training.

I wanna go tomorrow and workout my shoulders, legs, and abs...How long should I wait before I do my chest ?

I would definitely take my shirt off.  I was told by my plastic surgeon that just sitting around for weeks on end really gives the scar tissue an advantage.  You want to stretch and continue on with everyday life as soon as you feel comfortable, that way you dont let the scar tissue bind you up.

If all goes well you'll most definitely be taking your shirt off by mid-june, as long as you apply strong SPF to the scars on the skin around the incision site.
