:o I am totally freaking out! I'm 38yrs old, and I've been diagnosed w/gynecomastia. I go for a mammogram and have my prolactin levels checked on thurs this week. With all the possible reasons for it, i'm really scared. I've been a cigarette smoker for 21 yrs, and a pot smoker for 18.  I hopefully wont be judged too harshly. I'm not one of those guys on a marijuana crusade to have it legalized. In fact, No one would ever guess I was a functional pothead. People are usually blown away to see me having a cigarette.I hang with friends  who are very smart and don't smoke,  i assume that's what keeps me somewhat sharp.
From my internet searches (probably the worse thing to do)  i've found that it could be anything from effects of the pot smoking, to a tumor in my lung. I have all but stopped the pot, and I am cutting back and weaning myself off the butz. I didn't realize how hard this was  gonna be. I'm wondering if i should ask my dr. for a chest xray while I'm getting the mammogram....I need some peace of mind....I'm not sleeping well, and I get really anxious thinking about it. I have 3 awesome children from 8mos-7yrs. Man, I am really hating myself right about now.....

I guess I haven't been officially diagnosed with unilateral gynecomastia yet, I suppose it won't be "official" until after the mammogram, however, Last monday my Dr. told me he was certain that it was. I started to notice around the beginning of February this year. My family Dr. didn't think much of it,("probably just glandular tissue") but decided to refer me to a specialist for a second opinion. Well, since he didn't seem too concerned, I wasn't....that is, until it started getting a lot bigger.... 3weeks later, There I am at the Specialist's office.
He said he was "slighty" concerned because it was only on one side (right).

What sort of 'specialist' are you seeing?

:-[ I should say that I don't know if he's actually a "specialist" per se. He's an MD who specializes in breast, colon, rectal and thoracic surgery. My family Dr. had referred me to him. Is that considered one?

I don't really have the "boobs" ...yet. I just have this "disk-like" lump under my right nipple. It's very tender the touch. I'm thin to average build.

You should be seeing an Endocrinologist who specializes in Male Reproductive issues...  ;)
