just curious? because alot of plastic surgeon web pages say they use IV sedation and Local as oppose to General anesthesia  . If this is so then would'nt all patients be somewhat awake during IV sedation and during their gynecomastia surgery? kinda confused.

IV sedation is an anti-anxiety drug. Whereas a local anesthetic 'numbs' the surgery site so that you don't feel any pain during surgery. So... to answer you quesion, no, you would not be sleeping during a 'local' w/IV sedation.

Having a 'general' anesthetic means that you are 'knocked-out-cold'....

A lot of surgeons use IV sedation known as twilight anesthesia in conjunction with local anesthesia.  This is almost like a very weak form of general anesthesia, and it does put you to sleep. However, unlike general, the twilight puts you into a very light sleep and does not make you unconcious. You will also not remember anything once you fall asleep.
