Yes, it is possible to have gyne on only one side.  More commonly, I find that the other side also has some excess tissue, but not as much as the larger side.

Sometimes my patients ask me to do only the larger side -- but this surgery is actually more difficult to do because it is tough to match it precisely to the other side.

Usually I recommend that both sides be done so that the chest is as optimal as possible.

Best to check with your PS to see if you have any tissue on the "normal" side.

Yes, I have seen many men who had gynecomastia only on one side. True One Sided or Unilateral Gynecomastia is the ultimate test of a doctor's skill. Make an operated side match something that never had surgery!  Here is another example of One Sided Gynecomastia. For most, the real problem is Assymetric or Uneven Gynecomastia, one side larger than the other.

Hope this helps,

Agree with Jacobs.  It certainly happens where I have done just one side, as other side is completely unaffected, however, this is somewhat rare.... Performing the procedure on both sides is the best way to obtain symmetry.

Do you have any pain or discomfort in the affected side?  If so, how long have you had it?

Actually one sided gynecomastia is not that rare. I have seen many such cases over the years. It happens most often with those with very little body fat such that the global fat on both sides is not a factor. However, the uneven form is much more common. Fat just like gland can be uneven. I just operated on another uneven case and the fat difference and gland difference on each side was massive. But both sides needed both gland and fat removed.
