At my sons pre-op appointment we were offered some herbal supplements for about $30 bucks.  The supplements are supposed to help with healing and bruising after surgery.
I didn't get them but I'm wondering if I should have.  Has anyone been offered supplements at their pre-op?  Did you buy them and use them or not?  Do you think they really helped?  Is this something most Dr. offer?

Thanks.

There are no controlled medical studies about the efficacy of herbals -- but there is a lot of anecdotal discussion that they do help bruising and swelling.  The most common herbal is arnica montana.  There does not seem to be any down side to taking them.

When I schedule my patients for surgery, I actually provide them with arnica -- no extra charges.
