Hello everyone. I am 19 and first noticed my swelling at 17. At first it was really small and quite tender and I didn't pay much attention. A few months later I had some liquid discharge from my nipples so I told my mother and we went to an endocrinologist. They said everything was normal and that it would most likely go away in a year or two. Well it slowly grew while fluxing between periods of growth and some shrinkage. Now it's considerably larger than it was after one year and the most recent wave of growth and an increase in tenderness is what prompted me to look for help.

On the whole I haven't been too self conscious about how it looks. I frequently wear snug shirts and a few people that ask just think that one of my pecs is abnormally large. The few girls I've been with have said it was a little odd but not a big deal. I'm very fit. I run varsity track at the college I attend (see pics). I really dislike the swollen feeling however and the pain. I can feel it even on soft mattresses and it'll hurt from shaking up and down when I run. Once I learned how expensive surgery is I'd really prefer to avoid it. I just wanted to ask how bad my case looks and any good tips for dealing with soreness. My mother's been very supportive of me and would petition for insurance coverage if it came to it.

I must say I'm rather impressed with the community here. I creeped around for a week before deciding to make an account. So if you all can help me out I would be very grateful. From what I have seen my entire mass is larger but it doesn't look as large as some others, but I'll leave you all to judge. Thanks in advance and here are my pics.

Pain and breast growth are Symptoms of Gynecomastia gland stimulation that should be evaluated by an experienced Endocrinologist. Tracking down the specific  Cause of Gynecomastia can be difficult and can take someone with a passion for this condition. Gland swollen by some form of stimulation can shrink to a degree. Once stabilized, residual contour issues such as this One Sided Gynecomastia can be managed by surgery. Here is another example of Unilateral Gynecomastia

Hope this helps,

You're in great shape - the gyno isnt bad, but would bother me if I were you. I'm sure a surgeon would love to have a case as straight forward your's appears. I say go for the surgery if you can get insurance to cover it.

Your right side looks very normal and masculine.  See how the nipple sit flat on the chest?

Now compare that with the left side.  You can see that the left nipple is "pointed" or puffy.  That's due to the mass you have under there which is easy to see when you look directly at your chest.  You probably have a  unilateral case of gynecomastia.

Although unilateral gynecomastia is not as common as bilateral, it certainly exists.  The link below shows you a patient of mine who had unilateral gynecomastia (left side, just like yours).  He did well with a combination of liposuction and tissue excision.  Based on the appearance of the right side of your chest, you may only need tissue excision on the left side.

The discrepancy in areola diameter should be resolved as well when the left chest wall tissue is removed.

Good luck - nice to know your mom is supportive.

Hey your case was just like mine. I had a unilateral gynecomastia too, it only affect my right breast. i'v got it removed 3 years ago and enjoying a very active life now. Go and get it removed by a good surgeon and have a great life.
