Hello Dr. Bermant.  I was wondering if you could answer the question on how prefereable from the original surgery date a revision would be possible.  The later the better for scar tissue to dissolve?  I just have minor puffy areolas and would like to consider something with a short scar.  Thanks!

Tissues need to soften before considering Secondary Surgery.  Each patient is different.  Timing of actual surgery depends on the original problem, what was done, the after care, how you heal, and other factors.  For many 6 months is about right.  Such issues are best discussed with your doctor or someone you see for a second opinion evaluation.

No, the tissues are very difficult to work on when not fully healed and revision surgery may be impossible until they have evolved.  Better surgeons typically wait until the tissue is ready for a revision.  Operating too early can leave a real mess.

Revision surgery tends to be more difficult and expensive than primary surgery.  Many revisions take more time to operate, require greater skill, and often there is less to work with (the patient's tissue).  Some revision defects have no reasonable surgical options.  That is why picking your primary surgeon is so important.
