The person who was supposed to be coming with me to the operation has pulled out, and now I'm not sure what to do. I can either postpone the op until they're free again, or just go ahead with it.

It sounds like it'd be very hard to get by getting aeroplanes and taxis without being able to lift my arms or lift anything remotely weighty.

How could I conceivably get by on my own with this? If someone could give me some ideas would be really helpful. And for those who just had corrective surgery for puffy nipples, how did your recovery go? How long until you could move your arms around a bit more? When would I be able to return to something of a normal life like shopping and cooking? What about going to school and having to carry a bag full of books?

I had major gyno and was functioning in a few days  but I am relatively young. I honestly would say it has to depend on the individual but I don't think catching an airplane or taxi would be that big of a deal as long as you aren't lugging around a ton of luggage. If you have the financial resources your doctor probably also has contacts in wherever you are to have a person who can take you there, pick you up. Talk to your surgeon about it.

I am going to have the surgery this month, and was told emphatically by the staff that I MUST have someone to receive me after the procedure.

While it may be optional with your doctor, I feel the fact that the surgeon I'm going with has made it a requirement suggests the importance of being picked up.

My doc wouldn't operate on me till he met the person who dropped me off before surgery and they confirmed they'd be back to pick me up.
