So i am 17 years old and i am really worried that i might be having gyno.
i can feel this tissue behind both my nipples and more on the left one. i believe i have been at least having this tissue since a long time and i have been also getting random chest pains since past one year.i have also lost a lot of weight in past 6 months by going down to 54kgs from 81kgs hoping that my chest will look normal.but my chest fat below my nipples doesnt seem to go and i highly doubt its just fat.this is really ruining my life and my self confidence :(
despite losing so much weight i believe my body has shamed me.. :(
So my quesion is is this really gyno or just chest fat..and if it is gyno so i should go for the surgery or wait for some more time..please help me this is really depressing :(

Yes.
But you should feel no shame.  The condition is to be found to some degree in about 1/3 of all males.  That means that while it is embarrassing, it is not abnormal.
You are fortunate to live in a time when there are options.  The surgery to get rid of this has been available for only comparatively recent time.  In the past there was no choice but to live with it.
You are in the right place,  There is some comfort just in knowing you are not alone. But you will find a lot of good help here too.  There are things you can learn about how to dress to minimize the appearance of the breasts and advice about surgery.

Thank you for your quick reply.Do you think losing some more fat will make my condition look better?

Shivs, as someone who's been through it, I would want to tell you that you look terribly fit, and not to go through with it.  You look fantastic, do not change yourself.  I did it, and it wasnt done expertly, so it looks uneven and i will never remove my shirt in public.  You have a fantastic chest, be proud!

I do not think that weight loss will significantly change your condition.

Yes, you appear to have a mild to moderate case of gynecomastia.  You appear in shape and no amount of diet or exericse will get rid of that excess tissue.  If you don't believe me, then give it six months and re-evaluate.
Despite the poor experience of Cider Mills, not everyone who has this surgery has a bad outcome.  Quite the contrary, in the hands of an gyne expert, the results are often excellent. Unfortunately, on this forum, you will see complaints about poor results but the guys with good results either don't bother to post or simply leave the forum.

I am not encouraging you to have surgery.  But you must understand that there are only two alternatives:  live with it (and disguise it as best possible) or have surgery to remove the excess tissue.  That is your choice.  But if you go the surgery route, do your homework and find a gyne expert in your area.

Good luck!

Thank you Dr.Jacobs for your reply. Dr. can my condition go away with any estrogen blockers or on it's own? I don't think i will be able to live with this condition for my whole life and if there is no other option i will go for the surgery.. :(

No i dont think i will be able to live my whole life hiding this condition and ruin my whole life hiding from people and being socially inactive. It feels really depressing that even after doing so much hardwork and losing 27 kgs i have to face this condition and still be as insecure about my body as i was before losing weight . Will seek a gyne expert in my area.
Thank you for your reply :)

At 17 you may want to wait 5 to 10 years before considering surgery. Stay fit, eat healthy and see what happens. Look into what Phytoestrogens are and what they can do to you.

Jumping into a surgical procedure at your age would be a mistake, do yourself a favor take some comparative measurements, images and put them away for 6 months. Then take the same measurements and images again and compare them, time is on your side jumping into any cosmetic surgical procedure at this time may be something that you come to regret in a few years.

Wait and see may be your best option.

Your body is still developing, your hormones are more or less still in flux, give yourself a chance to finish growing both physically and mentally.

Never, ever rush into something. With rare exceptions it can wait, especially at 17.

Unfortunately passion and impatience comes with youth and prudence comes with age and experience.

Please allow me to put this into perspective.  If your condition has been stable for two years or more, then it is virtually assured that it will not disappear spontaneously.  And no estrogen blockers or other medications have been shown to reduce established gynecomastia.  If those medications did work, then this website would cease to exist.
As for waiting for X number of years, that is up to you.  But I have seen young men wait in vain for many years -- waiting for the improbable to occur.  And they continue to be aware of their condition and limit their activities during all that waiting time.

I have operated on adolescents with gynecomastia from age 13 and above (and in very rare cases, earlier than age 13).  And in no case -- not even one -- has their gynecomastia returned after surgery.

Food for thought.

Thanx doc for your reply. Ok so if i opt fo surgery then according to you which method should be done in my case? Only gland excision or both lipo and gland excision. And what are the chances that i might get loose skin after sugery?
Thankyou :)

Most patients in my practice receive both liposuction and direct excision of breast tissue through an incision on the underside of the areola.  Even men with low body fat % can benefit from the liposuction, as it helps with skin contour and re-draping.  And regarding skin excess after surgery, you have youth in your favor.  The elastin in your skin helps the skin contract after the excess tissue has been removed.

There is virtually no chance that you would have loose skin after surgery.  And most often, liposuction and open excision are needed for the best possible results.
