Hi I haven't posted on this forum for a while, so I had  2 surgeries in 2011 and again in 2012 and had some questions for the doctors here. My question is how long does scar tissue take to go away or soften to a point that is not noticed. And is there any kind of supplements that might help reduce it . The original surgeon that preformed the procedure told me that kenalog shots are just too dangerous because they can cause cavities in the chest and should be used only in last case scenario.  Is this true?

Scar tissue does tend to improve -- to a certain degree -- over time.  It does not disappear entirely and it is entirely individual.  therefore, there is no way to predict in any one individual.  There are no supplements which can help.

As for Kenalog, it can be injected at any time that there is scar tissue -- 6 months to six years or more.  In my hands, it is extremely useful.  The concept that it produces cavities, etc, is not true. Like any technique or medication, its usefulness is determined by the proficiency of the treating physician.
