malpractice/background check on PS

where can i find info on a particular PS for any lawsuits/malpractice etc. basically im lookin for an overall background chekc to make sure he/she is ok before a consulatation

im tryin to summarize what i need to do.

1) look for surgeons in the area .
2) check for affiliations with ASPS /ASAPS and other reputed organizations.
3) check with the state medical board to make sure backgrnd is ok and free of any malpractice, etc.
4) check for hospital affiliations
5) finally consult!!

Have i missed out anything,.. ??
