Congrats and all the best on Wednesday dude...

I doubt you will toss your cookies in the car on the way home.

Make sure you take a book, PSP, or something else to keep you entertained. They make you wait a good 2-3 hours before going in for surgery... That's about it...

No need to be nervous dude... You are in good hands with Dr. Fielding. He'll fix you!!!  ;)

Congrats and i hope you have a quick recovery.

I had my op 4 weeks ago and I'm looking a feeling good.. just a little tender still but I'm very happy with my results.

Dr. Fielding and his team will take care of you...no worries at all.

Things you should know...hmmm..
- everyone reacts differently to anesthesia.. I felt absolutely no side effects after I woke up but some feels nausia.
- yes, bring a book or something to keep you busy but there's a tv in the waiting room.
- kinda cool in the waiting room so you're gonna feel a draft up ur legs when you change into your gown.  :-[
- you're gonna be hungry after the op so have your friend pick you up some food so you can eat it on your way home (McD) in walking distance).
- you're gonna hate the flipping compression vest for the first week cuz you can't take a shower and you can't take it off and it only covers half way down to the bottom of your ribs so I strongly suggest you order this http://www.underworks.com/990.html (the double layer for it is more comfortable and provides a stronger compression). Underworks takes 2 days to process your order and they send it via 1 day Fedex express so you should receive it 3 days after you order it.
- you will be prescribed tylenol 3.  I didn't feel any pain so I didn't take any medication at all.
- no sex..lol although I wasn't able to follow through and got busy the first day. ;D

Anyways, you'll be fine.. good luck!

I took 2 vicodin every 4-6 hours and it helped with my pain very well, then 2 days later i was completely off the pain pills, now the only thing bothering me is the compression vest lol

the compression vest doesn't bother me at all, it actually keeps me warm.

there was another younger guy there at the hospital which i suspect was having the same procedure done.

i had more gland on the left side from what i can remember and it definetly hurts on that side more..eee

i just wanna sleep on my side so bad. hahaha

i've been sleeping kinda propped up like in a hospital bed to hopefully minimize swelling.

Yeah if you are a 'side sleeper', then recovery can be a tad brutal...

I'm a side sleeper... sleeping on my back for 3+ weeks was nasty...

LoL
the compression vest is not bothering you YET... I'm sure it will in a few days when itching starts...oh and remember, the tighter the better as per Dr. Fielding. ;)

Damn, it hurt like hell when Dr.Fielding ripped those foam pads off my chest.. it look off some skin with it  >:(

I'm strictly a side sleeper and it was like hell for the past few weeks but luckily those days are over and now I can sleep on my side again  ;D

should i tighten it up?

Snug dude, snug! You don't want to tighten it to the point where your head is going to turn purple and explode...  ;)

You're gonna find that the vest gets looser and looser because that foam piece that the velcro tacks onto stretches so much and doesn't return to it's original shape even after some washing. Mines got really loose especially after the removal of the foam pads... Mines stretched so much that I eventually lost velco space... oh and also the velcro thingie will start losing it's tackiness after a while.

Try this!!!

http://www.dalemed.com/prod/abdominalbinder.html

The 'Ab Binder' is available in different sizes and its Velcro fastening can be adjusted anywhere along the belts length. It is easily put on and taken off by the user and does not loose elasticity with multiple washings. It is called an 'Abdominal' Binder but as mentioned in the description, it can also be used for rib (or chest) binding.

I used the Ab Binder for my gyne post-op compression and I highly recommend it! The model that I used was #H84104111  9" wide, stretches 46-62". I recommend the 9 inch belt but of course you will have to determine the proper length of belt for your chest. I purchased it at a local medical specialty supply store for $50.

The last pic is a shot of the Velcro fastener... my flash made it too bright but you can still make it out... You can see it better in pic #4.
