i can now add that to the list of things to dread

blood test, IV from anesthesia, drains... not looking forward to any of that

I didn't have to do a blood test before mine.  I'm not sure what the indications for that are specifically.  If you have a good phlebotomist, the IV insertion won't hurt much.  After they get it in, you don't even feel it.  As for drains, I don't believe that those particularly cause any pain either.  If I remember correctly, I think I had a drain on one side, and I don't even remember when the doctor pulled it out.  The worst part for me was the general ache/ weakness for the month following surgery while I was waiting to be able to stop taking it easy and worry about getting hit, etc.  I would do it all over again.
