if it makes any difference i've had the op with Levick and on the whole am very happy. show us some pictures before you start ranting and raving.
I completely agree with Chodel, and no I’m not Mr Levick in disguise either
I went with Mr Levick over a year ago and I only did that after reading an awful lot of posts on here from
happy patients, and only 1 from an unhappy one. He does over 200 of these procedures a year so there will always be a few failures, or cases where the patient isn’t happy with his results. It’s human nature that the people who aren’t happy make the most fuss and rightly so, but we rarely hear from people who are happy because they leave these boards and get on with their lives. My feelings really do go out to those who are unhappy; I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. As I said I think it perfectly right that they should post their thoughts and experiences on here for others to make a balanced view on a surgeon.
I would be very suspicious of any surgeon who only had happy patients posting on here. Some of you might be aware that a large number of posts were deleted from this board when things became suspicious about a particular doctor.
I have seen
some pics posted on here from people who are unhappy with their results and I have to say
some of them look pretty good to me. No they aren’t perfect, but for goodness sake
some of them are a whole lot better than before the surgery. Now I’m no doctor and I’m not here to defend Levick or any other surgeon, but all of us have to realise that this procedure isn’t like taking a car to a garage with a dent to be repaired where we should expect a pretty near perfect repair. Every patient is different and each heals differently. It is my experience that there is a large degree of luck involved with these procedures.
We really shouldn’t expect a perfect chest after having this procedure. We should expect a significant improvement; the problem is each of us might interpret “significant improvement” differently. When a surgeon gets a result both he and the patient isn’t happy with then I firmly believe that surgeon should do everything that he can to put it right at no expense to the patient. And I believe that is what Mr Levick tries to do. When I was looking around for a surgeon, one of the things that stood out above the rest was that Mr Levick did any revisions for free. That is absolutely no cost to the patient and no hidden charges. None of the other surgeons I researched did this as there would be some charges involved.
Speaking personally, I am about 14 months post surgery and on a bad day I’m about 85% happy with my chest and on a good day I’m 90% happy with it. I saw Levick at my 1 year post op check up and the guy impressed me. At that check up I told him I didn’t expect perfection but he chipped in and said he would always aim for the very best result that he could get, and offered me a slight touch up to make me happier than I was. Frankly that impressed me. I would have been happy to walk away with what I had and he offered to try to improve it a little more at no cost to me at all. I haven't decided yet if I'll have that touch up or not.
To Arnoldswart and any other unhappy patient of ANY surgeon, my heart goes out to you. I really do hope you find some way of either accepting the result you have or finding a way of getting some improvement.
