Nipple "tacked down" to muscle Question

I had the surgery about 2.5 weeks ago. My surgeon said he tacked down my nipple to the muscle using a few small stitches so that the fluid accumulation would be minimal. Is this a normal procedure for the gyno surgery? Also if other have encountered this, how long before the nipple stopped getting sucked into your chest when you flex?

mine were like this, they seemed to snap one day when i was massaging which seemed to be a good thing as it was distorting the shape of my nipple (this was around 5 weeks)
