finally had it done on the nhs - pics posted

spoke to my gp earlier this year about my condition after watching "my man boobs and me".
Very sympathetic and knowledgable and had no issues referring me.
3 months later i had an appointment with doctor muir in darlington, near where i live.
Now i've heard some horror stories about consultations with nhs surgeons, but this was far from it.
He knew all about it, and made me feel perfectly confident, explained it very thoroughly, and to put the icing on the cake, made the surgery appointment there and then.
That was 3 months ago, and i'm now lying in a hospital bed feeling sore but very happy.
Obviously i can't comment on the results, but i had it bad and i'm already much flatter even with the bulk of the bandages.
I'll post some pictures later, but for anyone in my area thinking of getting it done on the nhs, it seems we have local specialists and he gets a big thumbs up from me

Sounds like you have had a good experience with the NHS. Best of luck with your recovery and fingers crossed that your results are what you hope for.

The NHS as mentioned a million times before is like the Lottery ... if your lucky to have it done on the NHS for free by an experienced surgeon your laughin' but for many like myself Private is the route ...

ive still heard lots of problems with private care too, but i agree with what your saying, some nhs surgeons arent experts in the field and dont understand the condition.
but still, it seems there are plenty of experienced nhs surgeons out there and people should always consider it if they havent got the 4-5 grand to spend

Glad to hear you had a good nhs experience; it would be nice if everyone could get such fantastic treatment!

Many NHS surgeons do private work and many private surgeons would have trained in the nhs anyway....... a good surgeon/doctor is good whether they are working in one hospital or another.

when i fractured my shoulder for the second time, my private bupa surgeon was actually the same guy i had seen on the nhs for the first time lol

Theres one hell of an improvement, even though theres still quite a bit of swelling.

The right side was always worse to start with, but i had bleeding after a few days and the right side went up like a balloon, at which point i was taken back to theatre, so the swelling is a lot worse on the right still, but even if it never got any better, id be more than happy taking my top off in public now

all in all, a good nhs experience

reminds me of when i had a hernia op. i went private due to a health care scheme through where i worked. There was an infection and i had to go back to see the surgeon, he wanted to keep me in for a few days so he took me to a nearby nhs hospital where he was actually based and kept me in a room there!

yeh tis still going down. the left side is more or less fully healed, although theres still a hard lump in the right, which is down to swelling.
At the rate its going down i expect a few months yet before its gone but its still 100 % better than before. my lifes already changed, im going swimming today for the first time in ten years and im actually looking forward to it

Did you have gland excision or just lipo?

I just thought id update this one seeing as ive had to have some extra work done.

After around 3 years I developed 3 pea sized lumps which the hospital thought were cysts and it appeared some of my gyne in the right breast had grown back.

After contacting the doctor I have had my op within 6 months where the gland has been excised and the lumps removed. Fortunately the lumps were just fatty deposits from the first op and the surgeon was able to remove them without cutting into me.  Down side is Ive had bleeding again so its  up like a balloon again so im still waiting to have that sorted     Hopefully it wont get infected like last time

Well, im all sorted.

Got sent back down for surgery where they cleaned everything out and fitted a drain.  Kept me in overnight and released me with the drain rather than keep me a few days as the surgeon was quite happy that I can maintain it myself. Getting it removed on sunday but everything has worked out fine.
Keeping my fingers crossed it doesnt grow back this time. Im hoping it was because they dint remove enough last time as only one side was affected this time around.
