Straight to surgeon? NHS

Instead of talking to a GP is it possible to go straight to a plastic surgeon?

I am taking the NHS route and was just wondering if it is possible.

No, the way the NHS works is that you need a referral from your GP to see a specialist, like a plastic surgeon.

The only exception to this I think is when you're taken to A&E and need a follow up, in which case the emergency docs make the referral. So you could try ringing 999 and saying in a Peter Griffin panic-toned voice 'Oh god, I've suddenly got moobs, send an ambulance'

Oh well I do have my GP appointment for the 2nd time next week, hopefully I wont bottle it this time...

Or what you could do is try to remove them yourself...unsuccessfully, then phone A&E and since you would've removed most yourself, they would be forced to finish it off. However bear in mind that it would probably be done by an A&E doctor, with no gyne-surgery experience and you won't be happy with the end result.

No seriously, the only way to go straight to see the surgeon is through private.
