surgery 2 weeks ago/ shocking pics!!!!
a member of our german gynecomastia board posted really unbelievable post-op pics. i'm really shocked.

Looks like the surgeon has cut all the way around the areola and now the area is dying off, probably due to compromised blood supply.   That is my guess anyway, and I say that because I wanted my nipples reduced in size and my surgeon is reluctant because of this type of complication............ the nipples literally dying and dropping off.

It also looks like this guy has a lot of swelling and possibly not enough breast / fat tissue removed.

Before pictures would help, but I am guess this was a pretty severe case pre-op.

unfortunate...... best of luck with the recovery.

I have no idea what was done here, but this is a good example of why many gyne cases need to be staged.  If you have a combination of gland tissue and fat AND a large areolar diameter, you have to deal with the fat and gland removal first, then later perform a donut-type of areolar reduction.  If you do all of that at the same time, this is what can happen.

That is one of the risks of Areola Skin Reduction Surgery.  The central areola tissue needs to get its blood supply from folded tissue under the repair. Push the tissue too far, and some or all may die. Any surgeon who says they never have had such a complication just has not been doing the operation long enough.  Even with all precautions, techniques, and planning, it can happen.  I have had one that took several months before it finally healed.  That was a case of massive weight loss and the nipples were hanging way low on the stomach.  Getting them up to the chest was a long, long way to go.  A nipple graft would have been easier, but would never look as good nor have as much sensation as the result from the areola carried on the long band of tissue back to the chest.  Thankfully such problems have been extremely rare in my practice.

See the wrinkles around the skin from sewing a smaller circle to a larger circle (Skin Reduction Surgery Details).  Sometimes they resolve nicely, at others, the wrinkles remain looking worse than a little loose skin.

These are why areola reduction surgery is something I often do not recommend unless the advantages outweigh the risks.

As bad as these photos look, you WILL heal over time and be better,albeit with predictably poor scars.

This is an example of why I am reluctant to do a donut excision at the same time -- the scars simply aren't worth it.

Although I haven't seen your "before" photos, I can say that virtually all areolas will shrink in diameter spontaneously after surgery.  Unfortunately, some doctors who perform this surgery do not know this fact and try to do too much at one operation, rather than allowing Mother Nature to lend a hand.
