MY doctors says my gynecomastia is going away should i believe him

Give it a few more months to see if it disappears, if it doesn't, go to your doc and kick him in the nuts.

Haha, yeah right. He is just bullshitting you to make you feel better.  Gland doesn't magically turn into fat.  That's like saying fat turns into muscle, which is widely believed by the ignorant, when it is absolutely not true.

Sorry man, but that's a pretty serious case and it's not going away.  Start saving up for the surgery and do your homework on a good surgeon.

If i was in your shoes, id be trying to get hold of some anti estrogen drugs like tamoxifen

especially at your age. Ask your doctor if he will prescribe you some! But yeah no amount of excercise is going to get rid of them but having said that i still think your just a few years to young to go for surgery (your bodys still changing!)

Ask him about tamoxifen next time you go up!

Many "Family Practice" Doctors are fairly uninformed when it comes to Gynecomastia. They know that the condition is common and they know that Pubertal Gynecomastia sometimes regresses without treatment. Beyond that they know very little.

You should request a referral to an Endocrinologist to see that your hormone levels are normal for your age and development. Here again your family Doctor would be guessing so you need the specialist. The degree of breast enlargement apparent in the photo would not regress sufficiently to leave you with a flat chest so you will almost certainly want to think about surgery at some point.

The family Doctor did not lie to you, he is simply not informed so he took the easy way out and simply tried to reassure you. In some circles, reassurance is considered the best treatment for Gynecomastia. Naturally you would not get much support for that kind of treatment here.

mrstew12,  don't think you've "missed out" on a bunch of things.  Realize that you are ONLY sixteen and then think about how young that age is.  You have plenty of time to experience what you haven't been able to confidently do before.

I got it when I was in sixth grade too.  Mine never went away.  I agree with Giantfan.  I'm turning 30 this summer and just now had the surgery.  I'm just now at a point that I could afford it though having gone straight to college and then law school.

I would wait maybe 2 more years though just to make sure you're body is done going through the major changes.

Look buddy, you're 16 and your body is still going through changes - there is a chance that your gynecomastia could go away as puberty takes its toll.

Having said that, mine didnt and neither did most people who find themselves on this form - so there is a chance that in a few years you will want to get under the knife and so it might be a good idea to just start saving up - JUST IN CASE.

As a 21 year old - who is not considering surgery immidiately for a number of reason (but eventually) my advice to you will be to build muscle and lose fat. B/c even though that wont take away your gyne - it will improve the appearance somewhat and increase your body's testostorne levels and reduce estrogen levels thereby reducing the risk of your breasts further enlarging.

I will pray that your gyne goes away naturally and you are able enjoy life to the fullest.

Do NOt Believe him, I had this since I was 12, a family member who is a doctor said it will go away, wrong.



at 14-15 another doctor said it will go away as I go to puberty wrong!


at 18 my doctor said I shouldnt worry about it Wrong!!

all I kept hearing from my parents is that I shouldnt worry about and I should listen to the doctor. I just said screw it and I schedule an appointment with the surgeon. Now at 19 and almost turning 20, I will soon be getting this thing done. I cant miss out on life anymore, I want to be myself.

hell yeah, listen to him. I'm almost 29 and still trying to get this dealt with! Sucks.
