I have my gyno surgery booked for Monday the 20th, on the NHS

Should I shave my chest? (I am quite hairy) Won't the chest area be itchy when the hair starts to re-grow?
What do they make you wear at the hospital for the operation?

Thanks
Had gyno for the best part of 8 (awful) years
Surgery on Monday 20th July. Never felt so happy in my life!

Yes you should shave your chest. Note that your chest looks completely different when you're not used to shaving it.
If you don't do it, the surgeon will have to (and charge you for it) :-)
And yes, things might get itchy when the hairs grow back but you won't care since your gyno has been removed and it's only a small sacrifice!
During the operation you'll probably be wearing a hospital gown.
Nothing to worry about, you can keep your underwear on.

grtz

I do NOT have my patients shave their chest -- it is not necessary.  I generally clip (with a trimmer) just some hair around the edge of the nipple if necessary.

Other surgeons may have different regimens.

By the way, if you do shave, do it several days before and not the night before the operation.  Studies have shown that there may be a slight increase of infection due to the micro cuts you might receive during the shave.  Doing it a few days before still keeps the hair short but allows the micro cuts to heal.

Alternatively, you can you a trimmer, which is much safer.
