Well, the problem is that WE are the ones with gyne that didn't go away so obviously we have a strong opinion about this. I am pretty sure that in most boys, it does go away, people here keep thinking that just because they don't see any of their friends with gyne means none of them ever had it. When I was younger, I used to go visit some puberty websites online, and let me tell you, tons of people had gyne. The reason you don't see a lot of people with it growing up is the same reason a lot of us here wore two t-shirts and never took our shirts off, people hide them. I am fairly certain for the vast majority of people, it does go away on its own. You can't just prescribe medication to young children because a small percentage of them will have a problem (non-health threatening) that won't resolve itself. This is exactly what's wrong with the American health care system today, we are totally over medicated.
That being said, I think it is totally bizarre that there is not more research being done on drugs that can fix this problem when you catch it early enough. I agree that if you have it for over a year or two, the doctor should try to prescribe something, especially when it's still tender. I had painful gyne for a LONG time, I think at least 6-7 years. It got better with time, but even in my 20s it would bother me sometime. No one should have to live with that especially if there are non-invasive alternatives like drugs. But do I think every kid who has gyne who walks into the doctor's office should get drugs or be recommended for surgery? Absolutely no, that's just plain ridiculous.
