How common are seromas following surgery.

Hi Docs,

I've developed a seroma, a lump almost under my arm about the size of a golf ball and very hard but not painful.

Surgeon says it's a seroma and will go own its own. Just wondered how common this is?

In my practice, a seroma is extraordinarily rare.  For some other surgeons, it may be more common.  There are no stats available.

If indeed it is a seroma (a collection of serum, not blood), then perhaps you can ask the surgeon if he could drain it (aspirate it) with a syringe.
