I have had gyne for 5 yrs . I have very puffy nipples and hat disk underneath.  I'm 5 10 and weigh 165.All I wear is double breasted buttonups my favorite kinda shirt before the gyne. I hate not being able to wear tees and polos and not swimming. My dad told me he had gyne but got it removed when he got older. My mom freaked out when she saw me topless and the doctor chuckled. I want to ask for surgery  but  i dont know how to bring it up.

Your Dad has already been through this himself so he should understand very well. You indicated that your mother and the family Doctor are also all aware of your condition.

Since this is already an open issue there should be no problem at all and everyone should be very understanding. You are a very lucky young man in this regard.

Your parents may have medical insurance that might cover at least part of the cost..Note the qualifiers may and might; It is also possible that they do not have medical insurance or that their policy specifically excludes male breast reduction surgery. The thing is that you have nothing to lose for asking.

In the short term, a compression undergarment will go a long way to conceal your breasts if that is a concern. These garments are widely available.

My son is 13 and he had the surgery on December 15. I think it is very important to sit down and talk with your parents.  Tell them how important this is to you and how it has an impact on your life daily.  If you have a famiy doctor who laughed at you it may be time to find another doctor.  Do not take a dis-missive attitude from any doctor.  I first took my son over 2 years ago about concerns of his chest and our family doctor told us it would go away.  He was completely wrong and my son at the time was already a b cup.  Doctors unfortunately are not as well versed on the subject of Gynecomastia as they should be.  Find one who will take you serious.  Your parents will help you if they know how important it is to you.  Once you have made sure there is no medical reason for the Gynecomastia and if there is, get it corrected.  Then you can research everything you can on the subject and find a well qualified, board certified, surgeon.

Please talk to your parents.  Show them this website.  I would also be happy to talk with them if they would like for me too.

Another note, my son did very well with his surgery and he looks fantastic.  I would do it all over again.  Time and time again on this website men say how much they wish they would have had the surgery done years ago.  If it bothers you as much as it did my son, please, please talk with you parents asap.

You are Mother of the year, in my opinion.  Think of how many teens have gyne and are miserable while going through their teen years, waiting in vain for their gyne to disappear because their family doc told them it would do so.

Gyne surgery is very safe surgery, especially if performed on a healthy teenager.

Obviously, any surgeon you consult will go over your complete medical history and render an opinion.  However, a history of blood clots in your family -- which is a very vague history because it doesn't tell us the circumstances of the blood clots -- should usually not be a detriment to your having surgery.

A pulmonary embolism is something than certainly can occur -- but it has so many possible origins that I doubt if it would pertain to you.  And pulmonary embolism is a complication -- it is not something that "runs in families."  For a young, healthy male, your chance of developing a pulmonary embolism after gyne surgery is virtually non-existent.
