December 2008 is when my surgery took place with dr Haugrud. I had only excision and so the gland removed (well most of it).

I've gone back to see him about 5-6 times since the surgery, mostly for scar tissue growth and the hard lumps that have replaced the empty space behind my nipples, both of which stick out just as much - if not more - than pre surgery. i have gained about 15 lbs since my surgery date, so granted there is some extra fat that i'm lugging around at my own fault. I stand 5'9 and around 180 or so.

As far as revisiting dr Haugrud, he has been quite understanding and patient with me. i've had 4 cortisone injections on both sides to break down the hard dense tissue (likely a mix of scar tissue and gland, from his perspective and mine), thinking with each subsequent injection, the problem i was having would slowly start to dissipate. it hasn't, and feels worse than before.

i asked about doing a revision, but he doesnt think its worth while to do so because its not as bad as it seems (tho like most of us here, i beg to differ). One benefit of Dr Haugrud, the surgery was free, but apparently this might be a case of you get what you pay for.

my next step was contacting dr Perron. had a consult with him, nice and friendly, an older guy but still seems young at heart and very understanding. he doesnt think its worthwhile to do excision again, but will definitely do lipo to get rid of the excess fat that i've been carrying on my chest since adolescence.
at a cost of 5-6k overall, which seems expensive and that his fees have gone up considerably (noting the packed office when i arrived, he seems quite popular among the milf's in calgary)

my questions:

has anyone here had similar experiences with dr Haugrud? i know he is a hand reconstruction specialist and not a gyne or cosmetic surgeon specialist.

any experience with dr Perron at all? i can only assume that if it was a good surgery, the chances of you still being on the board still are pretty slim!

still confused on what to do. do i just forget it and live with this problem and learn to accept it? or pay the money, spend the time and effort to get it correct now and hopefully forever?

anyways, thanks in advance!

update (for any other members in Calgary):

went to Dr H recently because of the slight pain i felt behind my nipples. a large marble sized ball of dense gland had swollen and was pushing out my nipples, mostly my right, and felt quite tender. after feeling them he immediately said that it was gland that had regrown (or was left behind...who knows), and proceeded to put cortisone injections in both sides, but quite a bit more in my right.

that day i felt a bit of tenderness, which began subsiding that night. i'm now about a week after the injections and both glands have dramatically been reduced and there is no longer any discomfort, swelling, or tenderness. i still have puffy nipples, but its amazing how much more theyre reduced.

this process, however, is not permanent. the reduction lasts about 3-6 months or so, before the density starts coming back.

still contemplating revision surgery, to which Dr H said he would do without charge and would most likely be local.

i asked about lipo, and though i feel i have a fair bit of fat on my chest, he said that my chest is quite smooth, and lipo could add some lumping or bumpiness to it. going to do my research on that.

feel free to ask away if you have any questions.
