hey, i'm getting a bit paranoid that i may have gyne.  ever since i hit puberty i have been overweight, and extremly obese the last 2 years of high school (19yrs old now), and have always had "man boobs"  since i was overweight.  over the past year i have lost a lot of weight, and am now only about 20lbs overweight (all of which is in the mid section)  my "man boobs" have shrunken ALOT since i was obese, but still remain slightly (they sag when i slouch, if my back is completly straight they just kinda poke out a bit, not noticiable through a shirt or anything)

i have been told that there are things you can do to check to see if you have actual gyne (real breast tissue) or just fat deposits that will go away as i continue to lose weight, like seeing if there is a lump under the nipple, which i dont seem to have, or puffy nipples, which i also don't seem to have either (although i'm not really sure what puffy nipples would look like, if some one could give me a picture reference, that would be great).

so is there anything i can do myself to determine if it will go away with weight loss?

thanks

Most often there is at least some glandular tissue surrounded by fat.   In any case, even a skilled surgeon may not know for sure until he has a look inside.

Some men will retain a small amount of fat in the breast area even if they lose weight to an unhealthy extent.  It is simply a normal place for fat to deposit.

We are all so different and there are so may variables that no one will be able to answer your question adequately unless they have knowlege beyond what they can get on this site.

Your best response will likely come from an Endocrinologist.  This is a medical specialist, you want one who specializes in reproductive issues.
