Hi,

I'm not sure what to do about my situation and hoping someone here can help me out.

I'm 27, I have gyno under both nipples, but it has slowly been getting worse under the left nipple only, I have mild pain pretty much all the time and the lump is larger on the left.  It is visible through clothing.

I've had mild gyno for a number of years and 2 years or so back I went to my GP about it, long story short is I got referred to a specialist, they ran a few tests which came back OK then a doctor examined me and basically said there is nothing there.

So here I am 2 years later and the situation is much worse, I'm not sure what to do, go back to my GP and go through it all again?  I have tried all kinds of self medication, some things have helped but whenever I stop things go back to the way they were.

Do I have a hormonal imbalance?  I am a fitness enthusiast, have a healthy diet, workout with weights and cardio.  However, I do find it very hard to loose fat, too much estrogen?

Thanks,

James

There maybe many causes but i think we can rule out too much estrogen as the test came back normal from the docs.

My opinion is that searching for the cause of the problem will be waste of as if nothing is done, you'll be here again in 5 years time...how do i know? been there done that...

I would adivse you to get rid of these damn things. unfortunately there aren't any non surgical cures.....so if you have the means, start looking for a reputable surgeon.

Hi,

The blood test was years ago so I don't think that can be ruled out.

My concern is surgery only removes the effect, not the cause and surely the underlying problem (hormonal?) will still remain?  Or can the gyno itself actually secrete estrogen thus compounding the problem?

When i asked my surgeon if gyno will come back, his exact words where, "no, as i'll be removing 98% of the glands"

I assume the specialist was an endocrinologist who ran all sorts of things including testosterone and estrogen (and probably LH and FSH too)?  Do you remember the levels?. It can be complicated to say testosterone or estrogen are "normal" they have a wide range. I think "normal" testosterone ranges from something like 250-900. Also then there is the ratio of T to E. Also being overweight can lead to aromatase which converts testosterone to estrogen.

Whats to hurt in getting back to a specialist and some updated blood work?

Is your surgeon a plastic surgeon or a general?

Hi,

To be honest, I can't actually remember much about the specialist and what was tested, not much good i know!  Yes I think I would be a good idea to get updated blood work, perhaps I could ask my GP for this?

I am working on getting my bodyfat down at the moment hoping this may help the situation or at least improve the hormone side of things and stop the gyno getting any worse.  I workout a lot so have quite a lot of muscle but my bodyfat is probably on the higher side than I would like ~18 - 20%.  Incidentaly, its only since gaining this extra weight that the gyno situation has gotten worse.

I've resolved that I will probably need surgery to remove the lumps, however I'd like to stop them getting bigger first.

I'm not sure what you mean about my surgeon, I don't have one.

Thanks

Ask your GP to refer you to an endocrinologist. Then get a consult with a plastic surgeon.

Hi guys, well its been 2 weeks since I last posted and something amazing has happened.

The pain is totally gone, the puffyness has gone, my nipples are actually hard most of the time and my left nipple which was at its worst showing through clothing, is visibly reduced by quite a bit, in fact the gyno on both nipples appears to be reducing.

Now, some of you may laugh at this, but I am convinced now that protein shakes were making my gyno worse or even causing it.  I have been drinking these shakes for years and years only having a break when I went travelling for 6 months, and guess what happened during that time? ...yep, no gyno issues.

I never acually thought protein shakes would be causing this as there is no science to back it up, however when I stoppped them two weeks ago, after 2 or 3 days the pain reduced, then went away completely (I've had constant pain, puffy nipples etc for a number of months before this). I haven't changed anything else or started any medication etc.

Please by all means shoot me down and tell me I'm deluded, but I just wanted to put this out on the forum in case it helps someone.

All the best,

James
