One week post-op - Still use gauze under Vest?

Hey guys.  I'm one week post-op.  Should I still be placing a folded up piece of gauze over the nipple incisions?  I'm almost afraid that this gauze, coupled with the tight compression might indent the nipple area?  I want to take care of the incisions, stiches, and steristrips, but I'm afraid of an indentation.   

Have your doctors mentioned anything about this to anyone?

I would consult your doctor of course, but mine instructed me to use gauze over the nipple incisions until the stitches came out and the wound closed up.
