partial gland removal

Hello,
I visited a physician today about my gynecomastia. He said he would remove a partial amount of the gland. Is that a normal procedure? Or is it normal to remove the whole gland?

A small remnant of the gland must always be left behind on the underside of the nipple.  Otherwise, you increase risk of contour deformity such as a crater deformity, or even nipple loss.  So a small portion is left behind.

Removal of 100% of the gland requires removal of the nipple and areola. Total removal is only done in cases of cancer.BUT you need to have the overwhelming majority of the gland removed to have a successful surgery.
