hi folks,i recently had some clearish nipple discharge on the rt side , i bent over to pick up an item and felt a small  pop in my rt breast then for a few days a clearish discharge ,i did put a pad in my bra so it didn`t stain my shirt . so after a good breast exam my doc found a swollen lymph gland in my rt armpit so he ordered a mamogram. he said it was most likely lymph fluid that was in a cyst.so far nothing else has happened and no more drainage but he wants the mamo for a base line.
has anyone else had a mamogram ?

I did in order to get my insurance to cover gyno surgery. It lasted about 15 minutes. They pour a lot of gel on your chest, but its actually pretty relaxing.

For most men with gynecomastia, a mammogram is not necessary.  In Walt's case, the findings definitely needed a mammogram just to be sure that everything was OK.

It is unfortunate that insurance companies frequently require a mammogram.  The diagnosis of gynecomastia is made by physical exam.  In my opinion, ANY excess tissue on a male chest should be termed gynecomastia.  It is virtually always a combination of some ratio of gland and fat.  Therefore, a mammogram to determine if there is gland tissue present is redundant and unnecessary.  But unfortunately, insurance companies will go to any extreme to avoid paying for this surgery.

Walt, I have had both a mammogram and altrasound about Febuary and I need a six mouth recheck  in Aug. I felt a lump in my right breast so made an appointment everything looked good in the right but the left look like it had suffered from some trauma, however I have no idea of anything happening.

It was not that big of a deal but that exray machine really does press the breast very hard.

Good luck!

Agreed! My first mammogram was very uncomfortable, my breasts were still growing and I hurt for several days afterword.

Hi Walt,
I had a mammogram about three weeks ago for a small pea sized lump in my left breast.  The mammogram did squash my breasts between plates but despite having painful breasts it did not hurt much.  I think that they took care as I told them that they were tender.

Normally on men they only xray them sideways as they are usually not large enough to do it any other way but on mine they did a top scan as well.

I then went on to have an ultrasound and then a double biopsy and even the biopsy was pain free.  The lump was benign, so all was well.  I did learn that my breasts scanned just like female ones and I had a high proportion of breast tissue.

I wish you well with yours.

Walt, not, under the arm. I will continue to keep you in my prayers that the rest of the reports come back as great, no problem!

The hardest part is always the waiting, so hopefully you won't need to do that to long!

God speed my friend,

Bob
