Hi  :) Ive been a Long time reader of these forums and this is my first post. Firstly I  just want to say thanks to all the guys who have taken the time to share their stories and experiences. I'm sure many people (members to these forums or just readers) are inspired and motivated by what you've been through. I know I have been...in particular thanks to  jakeyboy08, Mart, isambard, properanon78 for sharing your experiences.

I'm living in London and have suffered with gyno since I was about 15 (puberty caused, no roids, etc) After 7 years of being the insecure and socially awkward....because of gyno, I have finally started to look into the surgery. I feel having the surgery will make a HUGE change to my life as I know it will give me the confidence to be so much happier within myself, to walk around and be comfortable in my own skin - something I can't say I have done since I was a child really. I've spent so many hours in the gym trying to get rid of gyno but all to no avail of course, its gland not fat.

Ive been contemplating UK v EUROPE for surgery?
Obviously the UK would be more convenient but I just dont think I can justify the costs to be honest. Although the work by the some of the well known UK surgeons  seem impressive, so does work I've seen in Europe by other surgeons but for a fraction of the cost.  I am looking at Poland to follow in the footsteps of quite a few members on here. However, I guess I'm just concerned about having surgery abroad, especially should I have any post op concerns. Have people had scares, with build up of fluid post op and has your local GP been helpful? I'm looking at booking in for my surgery in December and if anyone has any advice, tips/hints then I'd really appreciate your comments and time. Thanks.

Pez2, Thank you for reading my thread it is there to help and educate as many people as possible,
Your case seems the same as mine and i am actually the same age as you too!
Gym will never ever ever ever get rid of gynecomastia gland which i believe is called the mammary glands.

UK VS EUROPE was a big decission for myself and obviously i chose to go to poland, Although it may seem like a million miles away the flight only took me 45 minutes from stanstead i believe.
The health care i recieved out there was alot better then the NHS i have been through,
Obviously with any surgery which a cut is made to the skin there will be scars how big and noticable depends on the surgeon, I am happy to say my scars are unnoticable to the human eye, Build up of fluid mainly happens if you also have lyposuction done once this is done you will have drains attached to you for 1-3 days roughly after that there should be next to none fluid retension, If there is this can be removed manually by yourself or your GP will be happy to do this for you. My GP actually removed my stiches for me so i no they will help as thats what you pay taxes for.

Hope this helps a little more.

Hey, yeah your thread was a really interesting read for me, especially as you had surgery where Im thinking of heading to aswell. Your gyno was also very similar to what I have now, however I would say mine is slightly larger and a little more pronounced. (Maybe I'l post some pictures up here at some point and document my story like you have with yours).

This is has been something I have struggled with for years and to be honest I wasnt knowledgable about gyno at all, I just thought I was overweight and that If I hit the gym hard, hitting the bench press, pec dec and targeting the chest with heavy weights I could get rid of it. Its only really beenthis year where I thought right, im not overweight, I have lost weight but its just not going from that that area. Visit to the GP, its gyno, google... brought me here and I'm not alone. I didnt realise just how common (through puberty and hormonal imbalances) this was.

Can you tell me a little abit more about removing the fluid retension yourself? is this painful? Was your GP happy to remove your stiches and did you go him/her for regular check up's post OP, were they helpful?
Cheers
James

Hi James, welcome!

I've noticed your post on my thread and wanted to see your story. Yours is very similar to mine (and most here) with regards to how you discovered what it was, with the initial issues and trying to lose weight etc. I lost a stone in weight, and even prior to that I was considered slim. It's demotivating realising the truth but you're now in the right place buddy. You'll get some great help from the lads here and we are all here to support your decision, whatever that will be.

Cost is always a concern - as for most, money is a limited resource and it's understandable, and highly appreciated that you'd look elsewhere.

Look forward to hearing more from you. I'd recommend browsing the forums, as I'm sure you have, and reading up on some of the extensive stories/experiences.

Cheers for the message. The experiences of others and this forum in general has been a great help already.  I'm currently organising some consultations with a few different surgeons. Due to concerns with going abroad for surgery I think I'm now leaning to perhaps having surgery done here in the UK. Obviously the cost is more but many offer revision surgery (if necessary) for no extra cost which is good. Plus post op consultations which for surgery in Europe would be a right pain, travelling/cost, etc. Im seeing a surgeon next week who is a breast surgeon specialist, often performing reconstruction as a result of cancer. He says he performs about 20 gyno surgeries a year, is this a good amount would you say? Obviously il get a better idea at the consultation.

Pez2, Im going to be frank and honest if your going to get surgery in the UK get it done with the popular surgeons on this bored such as levic! The title breast surgeon specialist really concerns me in my personal opinion 20 surgerys of gynecomastia a year is very little considering there is 365 days in a year? Im sure the surgeon i went two does alot more then 20 operations a month alone?

Its worth thinking about before you make a bad move.

Yeah I was a little concerned with the amount (20 a year) myself, but the consultations free and of course there's no obligation with it so it'll be good to see his point of view and opinion on it. Choice of surgeon and clinic is very important and so I want to be 100% sure I'm in the best hands for the procedure. I've got a consultation with levick at the end of the month aswell so at the moment I'm just keeping my options on but come November I want to be booked in for the surgery in December, that way I can recover over the Xmas break and start 2013 with a fresh mind set. That's the aim  :)

This is driving me crazy!!!
I just cant decide whether to just go with levick and spend more than double the cost of having it done in Poland. Or go with Ostrowska for a much cheaper rate. However there are no recent stories of people going to her for work unlike levick...

Erm, scratch that last comment.  I just read Isambards log, I wouldn't go with any surgeon who denotes a 10% chance of sunken nipples?   Plus all that draining and shit, it doesn't appeal to me one bit.  Believe me mate, I would have loved to have had it done for 2k as well, but after doing my research I went with Karidis.  You only have one life.

At the beginning of your thread you talk about how bad gyne makes you feel, then contradict yourself by saying you can't justify the cost.  Personally, I would have paid more, knowing I was giving myself the best chance possible.  You live in London mate, go with Karidis, it's on your doorstep.  I will probly get flamed for promoting him or being a Karidite or some other such bullshit.  But if I was you, I'd take that as a sign, but if you don't feel right in your gut about it, go with your instincts.  But as far as surgery goes, get yourself the best you can afford, darn the justification, it's only money!

Firstly the surgeon is being honest there is still the same risk with other surgeons but they dont tell you this!

Secondly the majority of people would need drains in the UK or abroad if they have lipo as well or would you rather blood/Pus just leaks inside you?

Finally just because a surgeons price is higher doesnt mean they are any better!

Thanks,
Jake
