Don't take your shirt off? Change clothes in the bathroom with door closed.

Not sure about being in a hostel - but I could have easily gone months without anyone in my life knowing I was wearing a vest. None of my friends or family would have ever known if I hadn't old them all I was wearing one all the time.

SO unless you usually walk around the hostel with your shirt off, I don't see it being too hard...

But let's see what others suggest.

If you have to say anything at all, telling them the truth is the best thing to do. You are now on what others call the "other side."  You have nothing to hide. I wish you the best in your recovery and total healing.

just tell them you broke a rib and need to wear this to heal. Or you pulled a chest muscle.
Formerly, 'Fattgayee', as in 'Torn Apart' or more so 'I am Screwed' :)
