Hello Doctors,

I regained nipple sensation on both sides very soon after surgery, probably within a week.  I had excision surgery just short of a month ago.  My areolae will both contract when pressed or pinched, but they do not contract even slightly when cold, whereas they used to be very sensitive to cold.  Is it correct that there are separate nerve structures controlling sensation and contraction?  Any ideas as to why cold temperature no longer causes the areolae to contract, and can I expect that response to come back as healing continues?

Thank you for your thoughts!

The normal physiological contraction of the areolas in response to cold should return in time -- but the exact time frame cannot be predicted.  Be patient.
