Hello,
I've had a consultation for a male chest reduction surgery and believe that the surgeon I met with leans toward lipo only.  I want no chances taken as far as leaving tissue behind that could become a future problem.  I see that cratering is the risk of taking too much gland tissue and I've read a lot of complaints about this result.  I am not going into this surgery, no matter who does it, with an expectation that I'm going to end up with a chest that looks perfect bare: if that happens, great, but if not, a flatter chest with no worries about lump/gland flare ups in the future are all I really care about.  My question: if cratering at the nipple ends up being the result, that's only noticeable when bare chested, correct?  The contour of the chest in clothing would be normal, correct?  I feel like I'm missing something given some of the very negative tones from patients that have ended up with cratering (one guy said his life was ruined, and his before pictures looked bad - my thought was that while bare chested doesn't look great, he neither looked great bare chested nor in clothing before and now he at least has one thing going for him and no future worries about gland flare ups...)

I have had 2 gyno surgeries both by a board certified plastic surgeon. The first time he did Lipo only and it looked much better. However, my nipples were still puffy because he did not remove all the GLAND. the second time I had him just remove the dam gLAND. I am completely flat now. I have flat nipples and no more soreness. One nipple is slightly depressed but it was well worth it. I DON'T think Lipo is enough. Just have a broad certified plastic surgeon cut the GLAND out. You will be more happier and avoid a second surge r y like me. Best of luck!!

I agree, I had lipo that did nothing  but take money out of my wallet.....they do need to cut the gland out.  In my case TOO much had been cut out, and I ended up with crater deformities - and the surgeon kept telling me they looked great.  It was so upsetting.  My nipples would fold in on themselves when flexing.  Now I've had that repaired and waiting for things to settle - end result wont be known for a long while.
If I could go back in time, i would have had the surgery again, but voiced my concern about the crater deformity issue.  I had been to these forums and read about C.D.s and never ever in a million years thought that would have been my result.
Please please please find a surgeon that SPECIALIZES in gynecomastia.  Even if they're in another state, its worth the air fare to use someone who has experience with men, and not just a board certified plastic surgeon who 'thinks' he can get a good result.  There is a difference.  If a surgeon tells you they can fix it with lipo......find a new surgeon, because its a lie.

Could not agree more.  In virtually all cases, lipo plus excision are needed.

And since this is elective surgery, take your time, go for several consults and if possible, try to find a surgeon who has demonstrated interest and expertise in gyne surgery.  You may even have to travel for such expertise -- but it will be worth it.

Good luck!

As far as whether its noticeable with a shirt on.....if i had worn a t-shirt, you would see the crater through the shirt.  It was clearly noticeable.
